Sailboat breaks free from mooring, crashes against bayfront as downtown St. Augustine floods
A sailboat that broke free from its mooring and was adrift in the Matanzas River near downtown St. Augustine was able to be secured Thursday morning but was still in danger of breaching the sea wall as the city flooded.
Bridge of Lions, other roads reopen after flooding in St. Augustine from norโeaster
As a norโeaster continued to pummel the coastlines of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia on Saturday morning, the major king tide flooding in the St. Augustine area forced closures of several roads and shut down the Bridge of Lions for four hours.
Hundreds of bees removed from the Bridge of Lions
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. โ Hundreds of bees had to be removed from the Bridge of Lions on Wednesday. Backyard Beekeepers called โBee The Lightโ posted the gentle process of removing and relocating the insects. The beekeepers said there were less than 300 bees in the hive so the chances of them surviving on their own were slim. These bees will be mixed in with other hives and closely monitored to ensure their survival. Pollinators, most often honey bees, are responsible for one in every three bites of food we take, and increase our nationโs crop values each year by more than $15 billion.

Iconic lion statue at St. Augustine bridge gets repairs
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. โ One of the marble lions on the Bridge of Lions in St Augustine is getting some repairs on Tuesday. The lion on the north side of the bridge on the bayfront is showing several cracks in its tail. There is a sign warning against climbing on the statues, but that hasnโt stopped the practice. The two lion statues, named โFirmโ and โFaithful,โ were installed on the bridge in 1927. They were put in storage while the bridge was rebuilt in 2010.
Community meeting held on King Street Master Plan Project

The public meeting covered proposed changes to the intersection at the west end of the Bridge of Lions. Ahead of the meeting, the City of St. Augustine posted on Facebook a 3D rendering the "Complete King Street Master Plan Project," which spans from Cordova Street to Avenida Menendez. 1 dead, 1 injured in Bridge of Lions crash
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - A motorcyclist was killed Monday in an overnight crash on the Bridge of Lions. Officers with the St. Augustine Police Department said someone called around 2:23 a.m. after hearing a loud crash near the bridge. When officers arrived, they found two people had been thrown from a motorcycle on the east end of the bridge. The driver, according to police, was taken to Flagler Hospital where he later died. The passenger on the motorcycle was listed in stable condition at Flagler Hospital.
July 4th in St. Augustine means fireworks and more
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ As the city of St. Augustine prepares to celebrate our nationโs Independence Day, including the annual Fireworks over the Matanzas festivities. There will be limited parking throughout the downtown area, so visitors are encouraged to arrive early and use the Historic Downtown parking facility at 1 Cordova St., adjacent to the St. Augustine and St. Johns County Visitor Information Center. Hunt Elementary School (125 Magnolia Dr.) andโข St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park (999 Anastasia Blvd.). The St. Augustine Police Department has a traffic plan to move vehicles safely and as quickly as possible out of the downtown area following the show. Fireworks over the Matanzas is produced by the city of St. Augustine with support funding from the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council.
