Construction has resumed on the Jacksonville Beach Fishier Pier, which sustained extensive damage and lost a quarter of its length during Hurricanes Matthew and Irma in 2016 and 2017, respectively. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Coastal and tidal waterways really have seen the worst of it with the intracoastal as flooded as we have seen without a hurricane. High tide flooding will fade but only slowly with some areas likely to still flood for the next week. Biggest tides were on Sunday with Saturday, Monday and Tuesday a very close second, third and fourth. Highest winds were on Monday, with many locations seeing wind gusts to 40 mph. The highest gust was on Saturday with a peak gust of 49 mph at Marineland.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Isaias has weakened considerably and is probably no longer a hurricane, but as a comparison to what the State of Florida has seen, Michael (Cat 5, Mexico Beach, 2018), Irma (Cat 4, Entire State, 2017) and Matthew (Cat 3, East Coast, 2016) Isaias has always been more bark than reality. Hopefully this will continue. Still anticipated to remain on the expected track, Isaias may slow down and drift a little left of the current National Hurricane Center track, that is just east of the State. That track was based on maintaining hurricane status. Even as a strong tropical storm, the entire East Coast of the State of Florida need to alert to regeneration of heavy flooding rains, especially right along the coast.

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – With eyes around the world on Jacksonville’s beaches, some of the first to open amid the COVID-19 pandemic, many are noticing the pier rebuilding project is on pause. The Jacksonville Beach Fishing Pier, which was damaged by Hurricanes Matthew and Irma in 2016 and 2017, respectively, is part of a nearly $10 million project to repair and rebuild the last 300 feet of the pier that was ripped off by the powerful storms. It’s the focal point of Jacksonville Beach, but construction crews haven’t made progress on the pier in more than a month. The Sky4 helicopter flew over the pier Tuesday showing cranes and construction equipment sitting idle, a temporary structure half-built next to the pier. It’s completely closed for the remainder of the construction project.

Hurricane Dorian, a category 4 storm, continued to crawl across the Northern Bahamas on Monday. GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. - If you live in Clay County, you might have to pay a new annual fee to improve drainage and runoff issues. Flooding remains a major problem in parts of Clay County after Hurricanes Matthew and Irma, and the Board of County Commissioners is looking at creating a stormwater fee for property owners in the unincorporated areas of the county. If implemented, an additional $60 would appear on your next annual tax bill. The new stormwater tax would bring nearly $5 million to the county to address problems with runoff and drainage. The fifth-generation Clay County resident said the stated "benefits" of the drafted stormwater ordinance would only impact certain areas.

The woman who created a GoFundMe page for 5-year-old Matthew (Mateo) Ortega confirms hes the Kingsland boy who died Monday from abuse. The Camden County Sheriff's Office arrested the child's mother, Maria Miranda Alas, from El Salvador, on a charge of murder and her boyfriend for making false statements. The Sheriff's Office said Alas flagged down a deputy Monday and communicated through broken English that the boy in her lap was unconscious. The couple was escorted to Camden Medical Center. As the child's condition worsened, he was flown by air ambulance to Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, where he died.
