Naval Hospital Jacksonville announced on social media that its emergency room will no longer be open for 24 hours beginning Monday, March 10.

As more and more men in the U.S. Navy deployed overseas during World War II, someone needed to fill traditionally male-dominated positions on the bases back home, like Naval Air Station Jacksonville. Enter the WAVES.

Naval Hospital Jacksonville announced on social media that its emergency room will no longer be open for 24 hours beginning Monday, March 10.

For the first time in Jacksonville, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, better known as NCIS, held a two-day training seminar on how to investigate strangulation and domestic violence cases more efficiently, and to provide people who work on these cases better tools to help victims.

While Naval Air Station Jacksonville has not changed its policy on face masks base-wide, thousands of personnel in the Fleet Readiness Center Southeast are now required to wear the protective equipment in indoor settings.

If you hear explosions and gunfire from the Naval Hospital at Naval Air Station Jacksonville on Thursday, don’t be alarmed -- it’s only training drills.

The parents, natives of Bainbridge, Georgia, said, “We are really thankful for the Labor and Delivery staff, as they did a wonderful job and we feel so blessed to have a healthy baby.”

It includes simulated explosions and simulated gunfire.

Residents in the area may hear loud noises during the training.

According to leaders from Jacksonville’s hospitals, who joined Mayor Lenny Curry on a virtual news conference Wednesday, nearly all of the patients being admitted for coronavirus have not been fully vaccinated.

Residents might be surprised to hear gunfire and explosive sounds coming from Naval Hospital Jacksonville this week, but the Navy assures the public it’s just a drill. The Navy hospital is holding training exercises Wednesday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.Those exercises could include simulated gunfire and simulated explosions, the Navy warned. The training is part of the Tactical Combat Casualty Care program, “which is vital to preparing Naval Hospital Jacksonville medical professionals in performing their jobs under battlefield conditions,” the Navy said.

After the shipments arrived Tuesday at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, phase one of the COVID-19 vaccination plan started Wednesday, meaning some high exposure-risk personnel got their first of two injections. Health care workers, emergency services staff and public safety officials lined up to receive some of the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville woman is suing Naval Hospital Jacksonville because she said it failed to give her proper follow up care after hernia surgery in 2016. An attorney said because of negligent post-surgery care, Zarina Champagne's lungs suffered permanent damage. Attorney Sean Cronin said a nasogastric tube should have been put through her nose into her stomach following the surgery to help flush her out. A statement from the hospital reads:"Were deeply committed to providing the best care to every patient entrusted to us. Due to patient confidentiality and privacy laws, were prohibited from providing any additional comments."
