Due to Tropical Storm Nicole, Putnam County is currently recommending evacuations for Zone F, which includes Sportsmans Harbor, Dunns Creek, Federal Point and other locations that experienced flooding during Hurricane Ian, according to Putnam County Department of Emergency Servicesโ Emergency Management Division.

PALATKA, Fla. โ The Putnam County School District last week proposed an aggressive plan to โrevitalizeโ school facilities in the county. 10-year plan to close five schools and build nine new schools in Putnam County. โIt is a challenge for our school district with a lack of financial resources to compete with our neighboring school districts,โ Surrency said during a presentation. In the first year of the proposed plan, the district would close George C. Miller Middle School, Robert H. Jenkins Jr. Middle School, Mellon Elementary School, Eleanor H. Putnam County superintendent delays start of school by 2 weeks
PALATKA, Fla. The Putnam County superintendent has decided to delay the start of school by two weeks. On Monday, all Putnam County School Board members said they were in favor of the delay, although the School Board will officially approve the decision on Aug. 3. In a parent survey that closed last week, 49.2% chose to send their child to a brick-and-mortar school, 36.3% chose digital learning and 14.5% chose Putnam Virtual School. But that could change depending on if there are more submissions for the digital learning option. She told the School Board on Monday that she plans to delay start times for kindergarten and prekindergarten students in the first week.
District: Asbestos believed to be inside 14 of 18 Putnam County schools
PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. - As children in Putnam County get ready to head back to school, a form sent home has some parents concerned for their children's health. In a letter to parents, the Putnam County School District asks for a signature acknowledgement that there are asbestos-containing building materials located throughout the school district. The school district told News4Jax on Friday that 14 of the district's 18 schools have or potentially have asbestos inside. List of the 14 schools in the Putnam County School District that have or are assumed to have asbestos-containing materials in them: Crescent City High SchoolMiddleton Burney ElementaryMiller Middle SchoolC.L. The school district also said it has a state-certified inspector go around schools twice a year to check levels.
