9-year-old boy recovering after bite at Florida beach

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A 9-year-old Minnesota boy was bitten by a shark as he body surfed in Miami Beach over the weekend, his parents said. Kristine Weiskopf told WPLG she and her son Jay were in the water for only a few minutes when the shark bit the boy. When she pulled him up, she said she saw a chunk of skin missing from his shoulder. A Miami Beach Fire Rescue crew took the child to the hospital where surgeons closed the wound, his mother said. That he’s gonna be OK,” the child’s father, Ren Weiskopf told the TV station.

Surfer bit on foot by shark in Volusia County, suffers non-life-threatening injuries

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A 22-year-old surfer was bit by a shark in New Smyrna Beach Friday afternoon, according to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue. The Sanford woman was on her surfboard in chest deep water around 5 p.m. when a shark chomped on her foot, according to Capt. She did not see the shark. The bite marks the fourth in Volusia County this year, Malphurs said. An 11-year-old boy was bit on the foot a week earlier by a shark in New Smyrna Beach.

12-foot-long great white shark named ’Ironbound’ joins others off coast of Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Ironbound, a nearly 1,000-pound great white shark tracked by OCEARCH, has been hanging out off the coast of Jacksonville. The male shark joins other large sharks such as Bailey, an 800-pound tiger shark, and Sydney, a 12-foot white shark.
