Coronavirus: Nike donating 30,000 shoes to health care workers
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nike is donating thousands of sneakers to health care workers fighting the coronavirus pandemic. The company has partnered with the nonprofit Good360 to deliver 30,000 shoes to workers in Chicago, Los Angeles, Memphis and New York. Sneakers are also being sent to hospitals across Europe. Nike says it is sending the Air Zoom Pulse, a shoe designed specifically for someone who would be on their feet for long shifts. The company is also sending 95,000 pairs of mild compression socks to New York and Los Angeles.
New study shows coronavirus travels on shoes
While concentrations of the virus were highest in ICU wards, general wards (even those not treating coronavirus patients) showed positive testing results too. Researches said compared to floor samples of other viruses, the rate of positivity for COVID-19 was relatively high. Half of the samples from the soles of the ICU medical staff shoes tested positive. As a result, researchers concluded the soles of medical staff shoes might function as carriers. Crocs launches ‘Free Pair for Healthcare’ program during coronavirus outbreak
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Heroes on the front lines in the battle against the coronavirus outbreak can get a free pair of shoes from Crocs. It’s a new program called “A Free Pair for Healthcare.”Individual healthcare workers can go to Crocs.com to place their free order of classic Crocs or Crocs at work. Shipping is free, too. The website opens for requests each day at noon ET and stays open until that day’s allotment has been fulfilled. Crocs is also donating up to 100,000 pairs of shoes to be distributed to employees at select healthcare facilities and organizations.
Local high school student customizes, donates shoes to homeless
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A local teen is spreading love throughout Duval by customizing and donating shoes to the homeless community in downtown Jacksonville. Julien Gasca, 16, has a goal to raise awareness about homelessness in our city and inspire more people to give. “I know people in need feel like they are struggling and there’s no hope.
