Outside of West Nassau, Baldwinโs title was its fourth, Bartramโs was its fifth and Bishop Snyder was its fifth.
Man indicted on murder charge in Baldwin truck stop shooting
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man accused of carrying out a deadly double shooting that unfolded at a Baldwin truck stop last year was indicted by a Duval County grand jury on a charge of first-degree murder, the State Attorneyโs Office announced Thursday. The State Attorneyโs Office said Leroy Edwards, 56, is also charged with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and three counts of attempted first-degree murder on a law enforcement officer. The charges stem from the shooting Dec. 19 at a gas station located along U.S. 301. Edwards, an employee of a Jacksonville trucking firm, is accused of shooting two co-workers that day. According to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office, Edwards fled the scene of the shooting, which police characterized as a case of workplace violence, but the violence didnโt end there.

Head-on crash shuts down US-301 at County Road 218 for hours
CLAY COUNTY, Fla. โ A Keystone Heights driver died in an early morning wreck on U.S. 301 south of County Road 218 when his pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another pickup head-on, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Crash investigators said the 29-year-old man was driving north at 5:45 a.m. between Lawtey and Baldwin when he lost control, cross the median and struck the southbound vehicle. #BREAKING: @FHPJacksonville is reporting at least one fatality in a multiple vehicle crash on US 301 south of CR 218. The southbound lanes remained closed past noon. Crash investigators have not yet determined what caused the crash, but roads in the area were slick from rain overnight.

2 dead in 4 unrelated shootings in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Between 4:40 and 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office was called to four separate shootings in four different parts of town. About four hours later a 33-year-old man was found shot to death in a ditch on Higginbotham Street in Baldwin. (EDITORโS NOTE: News4Jax previously reported that this incident was a homicide, but we learned from JSO Thursday morning the man survived.) New bypass saves drivers from notorious delays caused by two train track crossings in Baldwin
BALDWIN, Fla. โ A road project nearly four years in the making is ready for drivers to take advantage. Drivers traveling through the town of Baldwin can say goodbye to delays often caused by two notorious train track crossings due to a new bypass. โWe just worked with the town of Baldwin and local officials to build this new 4-mile highway that takes you over those crossings. This bypass includes an overpass over two CSX railroad crossings and another one over the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail. With the new bypass in place, FDOT reminds drivers to not drive distracted through this area.

BALDWIN, Fla. โ The man who police say was gunned down by his coworker at a Baldwin truck stop was laid to rest in Northwest Jacksonville on Saturday morning. Loved ones say 58-year-old Todd Phillips is the man who died at the Pilot gas station more than a week ago. It was a quiet morning as Phillipsโ loved ones entered the Holy Tabernacle Church. While family and friends honor and remember Phillips, there was another person who was shot, who police did not identify. JSO said Edwards, 56, worked for Rinaudo Enterprises Inc. and the shooting that occurred at the truck stop was not random but rather a case of workplace violence. Friends said Todd Phillips, 58, was killed by a co-worker at a Baldwin truck stop. JSO said the incident continues to be an active investigation and asks anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office at 904-630-0500.

Baldwinโs town-owned food market sparks national political discussion
BALDWIN, Fla. โ Baldwinโs new, town-owned food market is becoming a national political battle. It bought the IGA store and opened its own government-owned Baldwin Market with milk, tomatoes and Butterball turkeys. โCrazy,โ said Rebecca Graham, assistant manager at Baldwin Market. โWeird for us.โLocals told News4Jax said they think the town-owned food market is saving them from a trip to Macclenny for hamburgers or Jacksonvilleโs Westside for apples. Officer involved in crash near Baldwin
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - An officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was involved in a crash Wednesday morning near Baldwin. Investigators have not yet said whether anyone was injured in the wreck. The crash shut down Beaver Street between Winn Dixie Parkway and Yellow Water Road around 7 a.m.Traffic was detoured while the crash was being investigated, but the scene has since cleared. Westside among top teams in initial RPI playoff rankings
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida High School Athletic Association unveiled the first glance of its new-look RPI playoff system on Tuesday. In good position for playoff berths at this point: Bolles, Bartram Trail and University Christian, and non-traditional playoff programs like Baldwin and Westside. The top six teams in each region in Classes 1A-4A make the playoffs, and the top eight in Classes 5A-8A make the playoffs. If anything, this was a glimpse of how the new strength of schedule factors in to the playoff rankings. RPI, or Ratings Percentage Index, uses a team's winning percentage (.35), an opponent's winning percentage (.35) and an opponents' opponent's winning percentage (.30) to determine the RPI.
Drug bust lands three in jail ; agents seize drugs, money, guns
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Three people were arrested when the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Narcotics Team, SWAT team, and other agencies served a search warrant in Zone 5, an area that includes Northwest Jacksonville, Newtown and Baldwin. Officers seized powder cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, heroin, fentanyl, Xanax and meth in the bust Saturday night. They also confiscated five guns, two stolen guns, more than $7,000 in cash and two cars. The names of the three people arrested were not immediately released. 1 trapped after industrial accident on West Beaver Street
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - One person was seriously injured in an industrial accident Friday morning at the C&S Wholesale Grocers distribution center near Baldwin, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. Firefighters called just after 7 a.m. to the site off Beaver Street which has long been known as the Winn-Dixie warehouse found someone trapped under a large load and needed to be rescued. They managed to pull the individual out and transported him to the hospital and his condition was not reported. C&S released a statement about the accident:There has been an incident in our Jacksonville, Florida facility. At C&S, our employees safety is our priority and we are investigating the cause of this incident.

Boil water notice lifted for town of Baldwin
BALDWIN, Fla. โ A water main break left the town of Baldwin without water for hours Thursday. The town of about 1,400 was issued a boil water notice just after noon. After water service was restored, the boil water notice remained in effect until the water was deemed safe to drink. The water passed all tests and the notice was lifted Monday morning. Dense fog advisory issued; drive safely
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory until 9 a.m. Tuesday for Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, and Union counties. Quiet weather patterns, with consistent broad swings in temperature make for fog prone mornings. Fog dissipates when temperatures warm up. Many times, fog will be more persistent and linger over large bodies of water, like the ocean or the river. The two most important safety measures when you driving in fog are to slow down and turn on your low-beam headlights.
