A Northwest Jacksonville neighborhood is mourning the death of a woman and her child after learning the two were killed in an accident involving a suspected drunk driver in Chattanooga, Tennessee over the weekend.

Florida Amber Alert issued for teen girl missing since 2019
The agency states that in June 2020, authorities in Hamilton County Tennessee secured a warrant for John Westbrook, charging him with custodial interference. Most recently, on Feb. 23, 2021, a Hamilton County grand jury indicted John Westbrook on a charge of aggravated kidnapping in connection to the 17-year-oldโs disappearance. The district attorney in Hamilton County said a sighting was reported in Fort Walton Beach on March 6. Authorities believe John Westbrook may have also traveled to the western United States with Daphne Westbrook. โAnd in recent weeks, evidence uncovered during the investigation into John Westbrook has led authorities to become increasingly concerned for Daphneโs wellbeing.โ
Rough rescue: Storms, broken plane force layover for turtles

Thirty endangered sea turtles rescued from the beaches of Cape Cod are now safe in New Orleans after their Thanksgiving travel plans went awry. They were being taken to a Louisiana rehabilitation center when bad weather and damage to a propeller grounded their plane in Chattanooga. Staff members of the Tennessee Aquarium collected the animals and cared for them overnight. Kemp's ridley turtles are the smallest sea turtles in the world, growing to a little over 2 feet.
Board names Jay Stowe as next CEO of JEA
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ During a Monday night special meeting, the JEA board picked Jay Stowe as the next CEO of the utility. Stowe is the chief executive officer and founder of Stowe Utility Group LLC, located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was chosen over the two other finalists -- John Lewis Hairston, the chief operating officer of Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, Oregon, and Morgan K. OโBrien, the former chief executive officer and president of Peoples Gas. Stowe will take over for Paul McElroy who was called in to replace Melissa Dykes, who herself replaced embattled former CEO Aaron Zahn. Zahn was fired by a different JEA board in January following his role in the controversial failed plan to sell the city-owned utility.

Police nationwide, in unequivocal and unprecedented language, have condemned the actions of Minneapolis police in the custody death of a handcuffed black man who cried for help as an officer knelt on his neck, pinning him to the pavement for at least eight minutes. A bystander's disturbing video shows Officer Derek Chauvin, who is white, kneeling on Floyd's neck, even as Floyd begs for air and slowly stops talking and moving. Weve got to remember that it was not just Officer Chauvin who was sitting on George Floyds neck, she said. Minneapolis is bracing for more violence after days of civil unrest, with burned buildings, looted stores and angry graffiti demanding justice.
Tenn. woman faces murder charges after twins die with drugs in systems
A Chattanooga, Tennessee, woman was charged with first-degree murder after her prematurely born twins died with narcotics in their systems, authorities said. Both infants tested positive for several drugs, including cocaine, when they were born July 21, according to the affidavit filed by the arresting officer. Tiffany Roberts, 29, admitted to investigators to taking drugs, "citing she has a problem," the affidavit said. Roberts told investigators she took ecstasy on July 20 and went to the hospital after being short of breath, according to an affidavit. Both infants died on July 23 of pulmonary hemorrhage as the cause of death, according to the affidavit.
Fireworks still planned at Jumbo Shrimp game Wednesday

Despite Wednesdays late-afternoon barrage of thunderstorms, the team is still planning on business as usual for its game against visiting Chattanooga at 7:05 p.m. More so than the game, the Jumbo Shrimp will cap the night with its most patriotic and festive fireworks show of the year. It's the final of a four-game homestand against the Lookouts before the Jumbo Shrimp head on the road to visit Mobile. But more importantly, the fireworks will still go on.
