Commissioners vote down proposal for Daily's gas station in Fruit Cove
FRUIT COVE, Fla. - Met with much opposition from neighbors, St. Johns County commissioners voted Tuesday against a plan to build a gas station in Fruit Cove. The Daily's 24-hour gas station was planned to sit along State Road 13 on a nearly 8-acre lot outside of Fruit Cove Estates. The developer argued Tuesday that a gas station in the area would be better than the shopping center the property is currently zoned for. Applicants previously told News4Jax the new gas station would be a good economic decision for the area, supporting a boom in population. Neighbors also fought against the gas station in 2016, and commissioners then voted against the proposal.
County commissioners to vote on controversial gas station
FRUIT COVE, Fla. - St. Johns County commissioners are expected to make a final vote on a plan to build a controversial gas station in Fruit Cove Tuesday morning. The Daily's 24-hour gas station would sit along State Road 13 on a nearly 8-acre lot outside of Fruit Cove Estates. The proposal looks to have not only a gas station but a convenience store and car wash as an accessory to the store located just south of Race Track Road. We feel violated that they are event trying to do this but I'm confident. Applicants previously told News4Jax the new gas station would be a good economic decision for the area, supporting a boom in population.

FRUIT COVE, Fla. - It was an emotional day for many who spoke out Thursday against a Daily's 24-hour gas station being built along State Road 13. The nearly 8-acre plot of land sits just outside Fruit Cove Estates. "Daily's told us that a gas station here is going to be the greatest thing that ever happened to us, we didn't drink the Kool-Aid," Fruit Cove resident, Harry Fairfield, said. "There are 18 properties within 300 feet of this gas station. These are our families, and to be honest, we feel violated," said Cindy Dunlop, a Fruit Cove resident.
Fireworks set off in park bathroom leave damaged toilets
That's what visitors at Julington Creek Plantation Park found Friday, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. Vandals apparently decided to set up fireworks in restrooms at the public park, causing an estimated $1,000 in damage. A maintenance worker for the parks and recreation department says fireworks were set off in the toilets. The remnants were found in a trash can right outside the bathrooms, blocking off the entrance to the public. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crime, but surveillance cameras on the property were not working during the time the vandals hit.
