โI donโt trust the mail': Jacksonville voters flock to cast ballots early in person
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Itโs less than 36 days until election day and ballots are already pouring into the Supervisor of Elections Office in Duval County. On Friday, News4Jax reported voters donโt have to wait to cast their ballots. โWell, I voted like this because I donโt trust the mail. And I donโt really trust standing in line on the third because they might just slam the doors on us,โ Summers said. โI donโt trust the mail because of all of the hoopla,โ Hardwick said.
JEA meeting held in public facility, but media not allowed in
The private meeting was held in a public facility, the Jacksonville Public Library's Main Library downtown, but the local media was not allowed in -- not even into a lobby area outside the conference center. The area off of Main Street outside the meeting rooms and a library entrance used to be public. This is not funded by taxpayers' dollars, said Chris Boivin of the Jacksonville Public Library. News4Jax waited outside the library until the JEA meeting ended. "It was a private meeting with JEA employees," said JEA spokeswoman Gina Kyle, who was at that meeting.
Jacksonville church holds Pride Prom after library controversy
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Nearly 100 LGBTQ teenagers attended Pride Prom on Friday at The Buckman Bridge Universalist Church after the Jacksonville Public Library's decision to cancel the event due to safety concerns. Around 50 volunteers, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office officers, LGBT veterans, private security and more helped make sure the event ran smoothly. The Pride Prom event was all about friendship, positivity and love. Tim Rogers, director of the Jacksonville Public Library, told News4Jax on Wednesday that he canceled the sold-out event because there were questions about there being enough safety and security.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Dozens of people demonstrated early Friday evening over the Jacksonville Public Library's decision to cancel an event for LGBTQ teenagers due to safety concerns. The "Storybook Pride Prom" event for teenagers ages 14 to 18 had been scheduled for Friday night at the Willowbranch Branch Library on Park Street in Riverside. "I am here to support the teens that were supposed to be here -- to lift them up," Cynthia Baker said. Some supporters of the "Storybook Pride Prom" said they arent buying the library directors reason for canceling. On Saturday, there will be a Pride event at the Museum of Science and History.
