Newly obtained body-worn camera footage gives an inside look at lifesaving measures taken to keep a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office K-9 alive. The service dog was hit in a shootout between suspects and police.

More than eight months after K-9 Huk was wounded in the line of duty in Jacksonville, his left front leg had to be amputated.

For the first time since he was wounded in the line of duty, News4JAX caught a glimpse of Jacksonville K-9 Officer Huk on Friday evening during an event in memory of Nassau County Deputy Joshua Moyers.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday released body camera footage that recorded the events following a pursuit that began in Northwest Jacksonville and ended near the Jacksonville Zoo, where a police K-9 was shot and wounded.

K-9 Huk has had a few procedures since he was shot three times – once each in the neck, hind end and leg – and has more surgeries to go through.

News4JAX on Tuesday obtained the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office’s investigative report into a police pursuit that began in Northwest Jacksonville and ended near the Jacksonville Zoo, where a police K-9 was shot and wounded. A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office confirmed two of three men in the car were killed when shots were fired from inside the car and police returned fire.

Authorities say a missing Jacksonville teenager was found safe.

A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office K-9 that was shot in the line of duty Friday is “eating and resting comfortably” as he recovers, according to First Coast Veterinary Specialists where he is being treated.

Huk, a police K-9, was identified by the K9s of Valor Facebook page as the dog who was shot Friday afternoon, leading to a manhunt on Jacksonville’s Northside near the zoo.
