Mayor: City plans to buy controversial liquor store next to elementary school
The property where a liquor store was projected to open across from an elementary school in Northwest Jacksonville will be purchased by the City of Jacksonville, according to Mayor Donna Deegan, who made the announcement at one of her most anticipated meetings.
Federal satellite vaccination sites in Jacksonville reopen for second doses
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Hammond Senior Center and Normandy Community Center, two federal vaccination satellite sites, reopened Wednesday at 9 a.m. to start giving second doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The state-run federally supported sites will give second doses to those who got their first dose more than three weeks ago. The Gateway Community Vaccination Center on Norwood Road remains operational from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., seven days a week, providing first dose (500) and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Also Wednesday, the city announced that the Legends Center is now operating as both a COVID-19 testing and vaccination site. No appointment is necessary and the site is operational from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Long lines expected at COVID-19 testing sites before Christmas closures
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ If youโre looking to get tested for COVID-19 before the Christmas holiday, expect to be waiting in line. Not only are more people getting tested in preparation to travel for the holidays, but local and state sites will be closed Thursday, Christmas Eve, and Friday, Christmas Day. On Monday, the Regency Mall testing site set a record for most tests in a single day, with 3,499 tests completed. City moves COVID-19 testing from Legends Center to nearby location
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ If youโre looking for free walk-up testing for COVID-19 in Northwest Jacksonville, youโll need to try a new site, starting Monday. The testing site at the Legends Center will temporarily relocate to the Lincoln Villa Senior Center at 7866 New Kings Road, 32219. The temporary move is being made to thoroughly sanitize and prepare the Legends Center for its use as an early voting station, the city said. Patients must be at least 6 years old to be tested for COVID-19 at Legends Center
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Beginning Monday, the Legends Center site will only be able to conduct COVID-19 testing for those age 6 and older, Duval County Emergency Management said Sunday. Patients under 18 need to be accompanied by an adult and may be permitted with a waiver, according to the city. The city-run walk-up site, which can test up to 400 per day, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Long lines return to Lot J; COVID-19 cases jump again in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. As Duval County saw another record increase in COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the lines at the Lot J coronavirus testing site were longer than they have been in weeks. Curry cited a figure of 2.8% for positive cases in Duval County on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the percentage of people tested who tested positive for the first time in Duval County was 6.6% -- and we have seen that number climb in recent weeks. But hospital officials said its expected because those testing positive might not be showing symptoms.
New coronavirus testing sites available for underserved communities in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ UF Health released its new schedule of testing sites and locations for coronavirus screenings in underserved communities across the River City. The remaining 107 tests were used within two hours at the UF Health site. News4Jax showed you operations at UF Health coronavirus testing sites when one was set up at Twin Towers Senior Facility and at the site at Brentwood Family Medicine Clinic. UF Health said its overall goal is to get a broader cross-section of people tested, including those who are not showing symptoms. Access to a vehicle is necessary for testing at the Lot J and Prime Osborne testing sites.
First Coast Relief Fund to help with Irma needs
JACKSONVILLE, Fla โ City leaders and non-profits kick started Florida's First Coast Relief Fund on Wednesday to help with disaster resistance. A number of organizations are on board and contributing, such as the Jacksonville Jaguars, Florida Blue, United Way Northeast Florida, the Jesse Ball duPont Fund Trustees and many more. While Curry said he is proud of the work that has already started, he said there is still much more to do. Donating to the relief fund is very simple.
