Florida man infected with UK COVID-19 variant. What that means for the rest of us
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Florida Department of Health said Thursday it has found evidence of the first identified case of the UK COVID-19 variant in the state. The department is working with the CDC on the investigation and said it encourages all to continue practicing COVID-19 mitigation. โAt this time, experts anticipate little to no impact on the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine,โ the department tweeted. More contagious strain of COVID-19 detected in Florida
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The new contagious strain of the coronavirus that has spread like wildfire in Britain has been found in Martin County, Florida. The person who tested positive for the strain is a man in 20s and has not recently traveled outside the county or the country, according to the Florida Department of Health. Public health officials said the strain is not more deadly or damaging but leads to rapid spread. Officials worry that could lead to more people being infected and increase hospitalizations. The Florida Health Department and CDC is conducting contract tracing measures to determine how the mutation got here.

FHP: Trooper shot, killed by disabled motorist on I-95
PALM CITY, Fla. โ A veteran Florida Highway Patrol trooper who stopped to assist a disabled motorist on Interstate 95 in Martin County on Wednesday was shot and killed by a person who was with that vehicle, according to the FHP. The Florida Highway Patrol identified the trooper killed as Joseph Bullock, a 19-year veteran who worked his entire career in the Fort Pierce area. โTrooper Bullock was a leader within the Florida Highway Patrol and his troop,โ Col. Gene Spaulding, director of the FHP, said at a late-afternoon news conference. Florida hunter airlifted to hospital after alligator attack
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A hunter was airlifted to a hospital after an alligator attack near a wildlife reserve in Florida. According to 12 News, Martin County Fire Rescue said they found James Boyce, 46, in DuPuis Management Area in Loxahatchee on Saturday morning, a reserve bridging southwestern Martin County and northwestern Palm Beach County. At first, rescuers weren't been able to locate Boyce after the initial call of an alligator attack came in. Boyce was taken to a hospital for treatment and his condition was not immediately known. FWC said Boyce was hunting for hog with his wife when he was bitten on the right leg by an alligator, according to 12 News.

Authorities are calling him the modern day Hamburglar.The Martin County Sheriffs Office said on Facebook that a man allegedly used a brick to smash through the door of a local Wendys. He also burglarized a restaurant in downtown Jensen Beach. He attempted to do the same at a full service gas station, but could not gain entry, the office said.
