Driver charged with DUI after hitting officer investigating deadly hit-and-run

Driver dies as Jeep hits tree, returns to U.S. 1 in Flagler County
FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Jeep SUV headed north on U.S. 1 in Flagler County, north of Royal Palms Parkway early Saturday morning ran off the road into the median and collided with a tree. The Jeep ended up back on the northbound lanes of U.S. 1, where it came to a final stop in an intersection. The 61-year-old driver from Deland died in the single-vehicle crash at 12:32 a.m. Troopers said he was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.
School honors Middleburg teens who died in crash
Luke Kennedy, 16, and Parker Rowley, 17, are being remembered as inseparable friends. On Friday, they were in a crash that involved a pickup truck on State Road 16. Monday night, members of their school -- St. Johns Classical Academy -- honored their lives with a candlelight vigil. It’s been a heartbreaking couple of days for the people that cared for and loved Parker Rowley (17) and Luke Kennedy (16). The two best friends died in car crash Friday.
FHP: Teen killed in head-on crash off State Road 16
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 17-year-old Clay County boy was killed Friday night in a head-on crash on State Road 16 at Francis Road in St. Johns County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Middleburg teen was a passenger in a car driven by a 16-year-old boy, also from Middleburg, the FHP report showed. According to the crash report, the 16-year-old driving on State Road 16 about 8:15 p.m. Friday ignored the right of way of a pickup truck at the intersection with Francis Road. The resulting head-on crash killed the 17-year-old passenger of the car and seriously injured the 16-year-old driver. All lanes of SR-16 between I-95 and Pacetti Road were blocked in both directions while troopers investigated the crash.
Witnesses say car race led to fatal crash on University Boulevard
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died early Saturday morning after driving a Chevy Camaro into a concrete JEA utility pole on University Boulevard South and Barnhill Drive, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. Witnesses at the scene told police it appeared the driver was racing another car about 1:25 a.m. before losing control and running into the pole. The driver died at the scene. The second car drove off before officers arrived. Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating the crash.
Car crashes into Jacksonville Beach pond
Jacksonville Beach, FLA – The crash happened near the Jacksonville Beach service road around 5:30 Saturday evening. Officers say the driver had a medical issue before going in the water. News4Jax was at the scene when the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office dive team and two tow trucks showed up to pull the vehicle out of the water. The driver is said to be okay, but officers are not sure if anyone else was in the car.
