FHSAA to consider 3 schedule plans for fall sports

The FHSAA Board requested that the FHSAA staff gather input from various committees and then present some options. This is the current start date, although the FHSAA board will meet before then to consider any changes to the schedule. Under the plan, games would begin the week of Sept. 7, and state playoffs would be held as scheduled. This amounts to a one month push back of the original schedule that would have had teams beginning fall practices this past Monday. The FHSAA Board will next meet on Aug. 14.

FHSAA settles on framework for fall sports season

It comes with a warning from its own Sports Medicine Advisory Committee that provided plenty of dialogue throughout the night. The breakthrough in a slog of a night came on the backside of the calendar after three separate motions for an Aug. 10 start date were shot down. Schools would have to declare their intentions on whether they would participate in the state series playoffs by a set date. If they elect not to participate in the state series for instance, a program in hard-hit Miami-Dade County they could then play through the end of state series playoffs to essentially have a fuller season. Executive director George Tomyn was publicly against that plan and the FHSAA largely held to the original calendar start date of July 27 for when teams could begin practice.
