Vaccines given without appointment Friday at pop-up site on Moncrief Road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Johnson & Johnson shots were given to nearly 170 qualifying adults Friday at a pop-up vaccination site in the parking lot of a Harvey’s grocery store on Moncrief Road. The drive-thru vaccines were offered in partnership with Florida Blue. News4Jax was told to expect more pop-up vaccination sites as part of efforts to get more people vaccinated, especially in underserved neighborhoods where there may be a reluctance to get the shot. Wells says some of those who turned out Friday had no way to get a site even a few miles away.

Free drive-up flu vaccines Saturday for Duval County teachers, their families
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Don’t put off getting your flu vaccine this year -- that’s the message from the Florida Health Department and Duval County as the #FluVaxJax campaign continues. Winn-Dixie, in partnership with Duval County Public Schools and Florida Blue, will offer free flu vaccines for all county teachers and other DCPS employees at a drive-up clinic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone six months and older get a flu vaccine every year. Winn-Dixie pharmacists will administer the free flu vaccines to DCPS employees and any family member 18 and over along with retired DCPS educators, while supplies last. To receive a free regular or high-dose (age 65 and over) flu vaccine, DCPS employees must show their valid employee ID.

Health insurer to offer Lyft rides
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida Blue announced that Affordable Care Act customers will have access to Lyft rides as part of the benefits package in individual health-insurance policies, beginning Feb. 1. The policyholders will have $100 in transportation benefits from Lyft, a ride-sharing service. Jacksonville-based Florida Blue, which offers Affordable Care Act policies in 67 counties, has sold individual policies to more than 1 million people in 2019 under the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. That is out of more than 1.6 million people in Florida who have purchased individual policies on the Obamacare exchange this year. In a news release announcing the ride-sharing benefit, Florida Blue noted that people without reliable transportation can miss appointments.

Florida Blue offering free flu shots in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Whether you have insurance or not, you can get a flu shot free of charge this fall through Florida Blue. To get a flu shot, stop by the Florida Blue at any of the three Jacksonville locations on select Thursdays and Saturdays between 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.You must be at least 18 years old to get a flu shot. Everyone getting a flu shot at the Florida Blue Center will receive a free $5 Walgreens gift card, while supplies last. Last year, 110 flu shot clinics were offered across the state with more than 3,600 flu vaccines given at no cost to Floridians. Florida Blue hiring for 200 full-time jobs with summers off, benefits
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Florida Blue is hiring 255 full-time Member Care Specialists. These jobs come with health insurance benefits and will be located on Florida Blues Jacksonville campus. Those hired will have summers off work nine months and then get three months off. Florida Blue is holding an open house event on Saturday, July 13, from 9 - 11 a.m. It will be located at the Florida Blue Center at St. Johns Town Center.

Florida Blue hiring 500 positions, no experience necessary
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Florida Blue is filling 500 temporary telesales positions, and a hiring event will take place Saturday. No experience is necessary, but applicants should have good communication skills, a news release said. On-the-spot interviews will be given at the Hampton Inn on Prudential Drive in San Marco on Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both full- and part-time telesales positions are available for July through December, and there are flexible hours. Jobs will be based at the Florida Blue office in Riverside.

Florida Blue says they will no longer cover OxyContin for most customers
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Blue, the largest health insurer in Florida, announced Tuesday that it will not cover OxyContin in its commercial lines of business starting Jan. 1, 2018. Medicare Advantage products are excluded from this policy change, according to a statement by Florida Blue. Florida Blue is taking this step as one part of its efforts to fight the opioid epidemic in Florida. This type of consumption can quickly lead to addiction and overdose,” said Scott McClelland, Pharm.D., vice president of commercial and specialty pharmacy at Florida Blue. Florida Blue said they also established case management programs related to opioid usage that focuses on member education and safety.
