Lakeshore mural gets new life after vandalism
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Local artists have raised funds to fix a mural on Blanding Boulevard and Palmer Avenue in Jacksonville’s Lakeshore neighborhood that was vandalized in December. The mural was created around the time of the Black Lives Matter protests around the country. “We exceeded the goal, and with those funds, we were able to fund the other side of the building to get more artists to do murals,” Clark said. Black Mural Map says they hope to finish redoing the last part of the mural that was vandalized this weekend. They say they will begin painting new murals near the existing paintings in the near future.
Sheriff: 2 charged in pawn shop robbery took 40 guns, $100K in cash and jewelry
Antoine Spight, 28, and Brandon Nicholson, 30, are charged with robbery, false imprisonment and armed burglary. Williams called the pair “career criminals” and said they were captured on surveillance video Nov. 16 robbing the Treasure Chest Pawn & Gun Shop on Cassat Avenue. Williams said Spight and Nicholson posed as customers shopping for engagement rings, but surveillance video shows how quickly the situation turned violent. Sheriff Mike Williams said 26 of 40 stolen guns were found when agents searched the home Antoine Spight's mother in Georgia. Williams said Nicholson had the handgun used in the robbery and some of the stolen jewelry with him when he was arrested.
Zeta soaks Southeast after swamping Gulf Coast; 6 dead
Hurricane Zeta passed through Wednesday with a tidal surge that caused the boat to become unmoored. In Atlanta and New Orleans, drivers dodged trees in roads and navigated intersections without traffic signals. John Bel Edwards said the state sustained “catastrophic” damage on Grand Isle in Jefferson Parish, where Zeta punched three breaches in the levee. Edwards ordered the Louisiana National Guard to fly in soldiers to assist with search and rescue efforts and urged continued caution. Zeta was the 27th named storm of a historically busy year with more than a month left in the Atlantic hurricane season.
Jacksonville man charged with murder in weekend stabbing
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A 33-year-old Jacksonville man is charged with murder in a deadly stabbing that unfolded in the Lakeshore area over the weekend. Brandon Williamson is accused of stabbing a 46-year-old man who was found bleeding from the chest Saturday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. Someone called 911 about 10 p.m. that night to report a man had been stabbed near where Lexington Avenue and Hamilton Street meet, the Sheriffs Office said. Based on preliminary details, homicide detectives determined that the victim and Williamson had gotten into a dispute that turned violent, the Sheriffs Office said. Man found stabbed in Lakeshore neighborhood
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a man with a stab wound was found outside of an apartment complex on Lexington Avenue in the Lakeshore neighborhood Saturday night, Jacksonville police said they detained a suspect. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the stabbing about 10 p.m. by a 911 call. Officers found a middle-aged man suffering from a stab wound to his upper chest. Investigators believe the victim was involved in an altercation with another person in the courtyard of the apartment complex. During the dispute, according to police, the other individual approached and stabbed the victim.

2 men arrested after carjacking in Lakeshore, police chase on I-10
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Two men were arrested Friday after police said they carjacked a woman in her Lakeshore driveway and then sparked a chase down Interstate 10. Louis Cooper, 21, and Davareio Mack, 22, are charged with armed carjacking and resisting police without violence. The report said the men then got her keys and took off in her Jeep with her phone inside. The two then led police on a chase, reaching over 110 mph, on I-10 until a PIT maneuver stopped the vehicle near U.S. 301. the arrest report shows. "Exhaustive efforts were made to take them into custody, after committing a violent felony," the arrest report reads.
