Jacksonville is under a heat advisory with high temperatures expected to reach up to 97 degrees and a heat index as high as 108. News4JAX meteorologist Mark Collins says the weekend brings mostly dry weather, with very limited chance of rain.

Jacksonville faces severe afternoon storms, high heat, and a risk of localized flooding with more rain in the forecast, according to First Alert Meteorologist Katie Garner and The Weather Authority.

Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia are in for another round of “hit or miss” showers and storms through the weekend.

It was all good until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday when well west of Jacksonville, a single storm began to rotate, and within an hour, indications on Exact Track 4D showed a debris ball. Debris indicated by radar almost always suggests a tornado touched down.

Short term, tonight through Friday evening will be some of our quietest weather days we have seen all summer. As we saw earlier Wednesday, a few isolated pop-up thundershowers along the sea-breeze and that was basically it for rainfall.

It was a wild weather Thursday evening in Northern Clay and Duval counties. Although there were numerous counties under severe thunderstorm warnings, Exact Track 4D didn’t see the two categories for severe thunderstorms actually take place. Hail greater than an inch (at the surface) and / or winds at or above 60 mph were never recorded. Nor were there any significant reports of trees down or wind damage. All good things.

Therefore, Friday will be a Weather Authority Alert Day due to inconvenient, chilly rain that will stick around much longer than we’d like. We expect rounds of disruptive rain to push through starting very early Friday morning and persist for most of the day. During this time we may see a few thunderstorms and a slight chance for severe storms from Valdosta to Waycross to Brunswick. “The big story here is not about severe weather. at 5 am this should be just a pause as another round of downpours will develop before 8amSlight chance of a severe storm around 8am

After a damp and foggy start we are starting to see some sunshine peek through the clouds. Afternoon highs will climb into the mid 60s across SE GA and mid to upper 60s even low 70s across portions of NE FL. If you’re planning on firing up the grill for Super Bowl Sunday you can expect some sunshine with seasonal comfortable conditions. Overnight lows will drop into the seasonal upper 40s with clear skies. The next round of potentially disruptive weather starts next Friday and spills over into the weekend.
