The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office released body cam video of a deadly officer involved shooting in the Lake Forest neighborhood Sunday, August 6.In the video, you can see the officer driving up to the scene, heโs immediately met by a man and woman who tell him their friend and dog were stabbed. The video is blurred where the dead man and dog are laying in the yard.
JSO: Passengers of white car may have information about deadly drive-by shooting
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Jacksonville police are searching for the passengers of a white car who may have information about a deadly drive-by shooting last week. The car, which JSO released a photo of, was in the area and may have valuable information regarding the murder, police said. Another witness, who News4Jax has chosen not to identify, said she was outside when saw the white car moments before the shooting. โI saw the white car go past one time real fast. Naval Academy midshipman reaches a milestone for Black women
A Black woman had never held the post in the 44 years women have been able to attend the 175-year-old institution. A Black academy alumna of another generation saw her potential. Next semester, Barber will become the first Black woman to be the academyโs brigade commander. Thatโs when Janie Mines became the first Black woman to enter the Naval Academy, graduating four years later in 1980. This young woman, Midshipman Sydney Barber, will be the first Black Female Brigade Commander at the U.S.
Man shot to death at Lake Forest apartment complex
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man in his mid-20s to early 30s was killed when an argument escalated into a shooting Friday morning. Police said they were called at 3:30 a.m. to an apartment complex on Linda Drive in the Lake Forest neighborhood. Upon arrival, they found a man inside of a unit with at least one gunshot wound in the upper torso. A spokesperson for Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said the people involved are known to each other and could be a domestic situation. JSO does not believe this shooting was connected to an earlier shooting in the Allendale neighborhood which resulted in the death of a woman in her 30s.
Jacksonville police: Woman shot during dispute at store
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A woman was taken into custody after another woman was shot and seriously injured during a dispute Sunday afternoon at a store in the Lake Forest neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. Officers said they responded about 12:20 p.m. to a shooting at Safeco Discount Store on Bunker Hill Boulevard. Based on what police learned from witnesses, according to the Sheriffs Office, it appears two female customers were involved in a physical dispute, and during the altercation, one of the women shot the other woman in the leg. The shooter remained at the scene and was taken into custody, according to the Sheriffs Office. The Sheriffs Office said it was not immediately known whether the dispute began in the store or before that.
Woman abducted overnight found; search continues for suspect
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A woman abducted at gunpoint from her Lake Forest home early Saturday morning was located, according to police. The search continues for a suspect: Tyrone Davis, 34. Thereโs no word on where and how the woman was found, but police said she is safe. Officers believe Davis broke into the womanโs home in the area of West Edgewood Avenue and Moncrief Road in the early morning hours. Once inside he displayed a black handgun before dragging the woman by her hair out of the house and into an unknown vehicle.
Some neighbors against plan to close Northwestern Middle in future
The schools affected by the plan include Lake Forest Elementary and Northwestern Middle School. The districts plan to convert Northwestern into an elementary school is contingent upon whether voters approve a half-cent sales tax to fund the districts master facilities plan. He does not agree with Greenes decision to close Northwestern Middle. Now-shuttered Lake Forest Elementary, which is less than 2 miles away from Northwestern, received an F grade in 2018-19. Greene: "My plan is that Northwestern will close at the end of the 2019-20 school year."
