JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died late Saturday night when he darted in front of an SUV on Interstate 295 at Old St. Augustine Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the 31-year-old man was outside a disabled car about 11:30 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, he left the median and moved in front of the northbound vehicle. He died at the scene. The driver stopped and was cooperating with FHP.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 32-year-old Jacksonville man was struck by a car early Wednesday morning on the city’s Southside. The collision happened shortly after 1 a.m. on Philips Highway near Baymeadows Road, according to a crash report released by the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the unnamed pedestrian was standing in the left lane of Philips Highway when he was hit by a northbound sedan and knocked into the center lane. The pedestrian suffered critical injuries, troopers said. Neither the sedan’s 55-year-old driver nor its 26-year-old passenger was hurt.

The pedestrian and driver were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, the notification said. The driver was in fair condition and a 10-year-old girl also in the Buick was not injured.
