It’s National Black Cat Day!
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s National Black Cat Day! Although a black cat crossing your path supposedly signifies bad luck, in some countries it’s the opposite. In parts of places like England, Asia and Ireland, when a black cat crosses your path it signifies good luck. This folklore and association comes from people believing cats turned themselves into black cats or used them as their familiar. To be a true black cat, both of its parents need to have the black color gene.
It’s International Sloth Day
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s a great day to be lazy! October 20 is International Sloth Day. Sloths are great swimmers and can hold their breath for up to 40 minutes underwater. Sloths only go to the bathroom once a week and when they go, it’s in the same exact spot. Thanks to extra vertebrae in their spine, sloths can rotate their head 270 degrees in either direction.
2020 Census: October 15 is the last day for Census count
The deadline for self-response and field data collection operations for the 2020 Census is now 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 15. Phone response will be available for its regularly scheduled time on October 15, 2020. Paper responses must be postmarked by October 15, 2020. Nonresponse Followup census takers will continue resolving nonresponding addresses through the end of the day on October 15, 2020. As of Wednesday, well over 99.9% of housing units have been accounted for in the 2020 Census.
