He attributes his life and career to his eighth grade teacher, Ms. Tave, who helped him re-integrate into school after treatment for leukemia. She also founded the Association for Teacher Collaboration, which allows teachers to support one another throughout Duval County, including helping new teachers set up their very first classrooms. She has 32 years of teaching experience in several schools throughout Duval County, and she specializes in helping to turn around schools through literacy.

New signs unveiled at Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena

On Tuesday, new signs were unveiled at the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena. The naming rights agreement was announced in February. Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry has said the deal is good for taxpayers and creates new program funding for veterans in the city. RELATED: VyStar reaches agreement for naming rights of Veterans ArenaVyStar will match those donations. Other initiatives include a veterans memorial, as well as discounts for veterans and VyStar members on concessions, tickets and parking.

Signs of change: VyStar logo takes over Downtown tower

Downtown Jacksonvilles skyline looks a bit different now that the sign at the top of what was the SunTrust building reads VyStar. Vystar has moved half of its workers to the Downtown office. SunTrust, which was formerly using that building, is moving into the Bank of America Tower. From the Old City Hall being imploded and the courthouse demolished to the new signs at the top of high-rises and the future demolition of The Jacksonville Landing, Downtown Jacksonville is changing rapidly. Jasmine Bowman, who has lived in downtown her whole life, said she's glad changes are being made and hopes they make a difference in how Downtown is perceived.

Daily Record: Vystar plans to put name on tower in August

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - VyStar plans to remove the SunTrust logo from a downtown tower it purchased nearly a year ago and replace it with its own signage sometime in August, according to an article in the Jacksonville Daily Record. The city issued permits on Friday for Brown Enterprise to put up four signs, the Daily Record said. The signs include placement on revolving doors and on the parking garage entrance. Judy Waltz told the Record it should take most of August to place the signage on the 23-story tower on Laura Street. Read the full story on the Daily Record's website.
