โItโs worth the waitโ: LeRoy Butler takes his place in Hall of Fame
Butler was the first of the eight inductees to lead off the Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremonies Saturday and did his best to squeeze in gratitude for everyone in his journey. He thanked his seven children, his wife, Genesis, his four siblings, his favorite high school teacher, his coaches and every fan who cheered his remarkable path.
One Hall of a duo: LeRoy Butler, Tony Boselli make history together for Jacksonville
The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2022 features the adopted son (Tony Boselli) and the native son (LeRoy Butler) for a combination unlike anything the area has seen before. They will be enshrined with the gameโs greats Saturday afternoon in Canton, Ohio, continuing a local trend that has seen area products enter the Hall at a rapid recent pace.

Tony Boselli was the bedrock of the expansion Jaguars. LeRoy Butler grew up in Jacksonville and went on to star at the highest levels of football. Two Jacksonville icons, both going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame together.
No Hall of Fame knock for Boselli again
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Jaguars offensive tackle Tony Boselli is still waiting on his call from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. โI want to be in the Hall of Fame,โ Boselli told Jaguars.com. While Boselli and Butler missed out in 2021, the area has enjoyed solid Pro Football Hall of Fame representation in recent years. Raines graduate Brian Dawkins was voted in to the Hall in 2018 and Charlton County product Champ Bailey was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019. AdBefore those three went in, Bob Hayes was the last local product to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

There, they present the 15 finalists, discuss and vote, paring the list down to 10, and finally to the 5 modern-day players selected for enshrinement in the hall of Fame in Canton. Of course, there are a couple of Jacksonville connections among the final 15. The Hall of Fame tweeted out a piece of his presentation:The HOF Selection Committee is meeting virtually today to discuss the candidates for the #PFHOF21 Class. โAll the guys on that list have great credentials,โ Boselli said after being named as one of the final 15 yet again.
Boselli grateful for another shot at hall of fame honor
For the fifth time, the former Jaguars all-pro tackle is among the final 15 for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And to be one of the top 15 guys to be considered for the Hall of Fame again โฆ obviously, all of us want to be one of the final five that ended up going to Canton. He is one of the great guards, played for the Steelers, all kinds of success, won championships,โ Boselli said. It would be an honor anytime for Boselli to be selected, but this year might feel extra special. Iโm excited for 2021 and I canโt think of a better way for the Boselli family to kick off 2021 than to be invited to be part of the Hall of Fame.โ

(AP photos)JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Tony Boselli and LeRoy Butler are Pro Football Hall of Fame finalists again, while the wait continues for Fred Taylor. Butler, a former Packers safety who was largely credited for starting the famed Lambeau Leap, was named a finalist for the second straight year. Boselli was a Pro Bowl selection from 1996-2000 before injuries ended his career. He had 721 tackles and was inducted into the Packers hall of fame in 2007.
Three former Jaguars nominated for Pro Football Hall of Fame
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Three Jaguars and one Jacksonville native are nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fameโs Class of 2021. Boselli, the first draft pick in Jaguars history, and Butler were Pro Football Hall of Fame finalists last year. He was a Pro Bowl selection from 1996-2000 before injuries ended his career. He was a Pro Bowl selection following the 2007 season. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection.
