Political experts weigh in on acquittal of former President Trump in 2nd impeachment trial
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Former President Donald Trump was acquitted this weekend in his second impeachment trial. The five-day trial focused on the events before, during and after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Itโs pouring salt on the wound of so many of President Trumpโs supporters,โ Waltz said. So I just donโt think itโs good for the country.โAdIn response to Waltzโs remarks, state Sen. Audrey Gibson, D-Jacksonville, had a different view. โI think the congressman is wearing blinders on top of his rose-colored glasses because, obviously, he didnโt see what we all saw,โ Gibson said.

On Monday, Camden County will begin its recount of the Presidential race, where Joe Biden narrowly defeated President Donald Trump. Tens of thousands of voters anxious to cast ballots in person were lined up when early voting opened Monday across Florida.
Floridaโs minimum wage fight expected to be close
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. โ Voting yes on Amendment 2 to boost Floridaโs minimum wage will either give 2.5 million workers a pay raise or result in 158,000 jobs disappearing over the next few years. Supporters need to win approval from 60 percent of voters to increase the minimum wage, a proposal spearheaded by prominent Orlando attorney John Morgan. What I mean by that is that Democrats tend to favor increases in the minimum wage at higher rates than Republicans,โ Wagner said. Florida TaxWatch and the Florida Chamber of Commerce are among groups that have released studies highly critical of the amendment. Susan MacManus, a University of South Florida' distinguished professor emerita of political analysis, isnโt impressed with the polling numbers.
Support to raise minimum wage in Florida not a sure thing, according to poll
In just over 3 weeks, Floridians will decide if the minimum wage should be raised in the sunshine state. A new poll from the University of North Florida shows a thin margin of support for the measure. Amendment Two, if passed by Florida voters, would slowly raise the minimum wage from the current $8.56 to $10 on Oct. 30 of next year. After that, Amendment Two would see the minimum wage go back to being adjusted for inflation each year. Support for the minimum wage hike appears to be sitting right at the 60% mark, which is the threshold needed to adjust the Florida constitution.

What does the 25th Amendment have to do with President Trumpโs diagnosis?
President Trump announced the news in a tweet, saying he and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive. Later Friday, the White House said the president was being taken to Walter Reed Medical Center for a few days' stay. The president signs a letter authorizing the vice president to lead the nation in his absence, said Michael Binder, associate professor of political science at the University of North Florida. Like the initial letter passing the proverbial baton to the vice president, Binder said, the protocol for a president to resume his duties involves stating in writing that he is prepared to return to office. If a president were to pass away before the election but win re-election, he said, the vice president would become president and name a vice president who would assume office upon Congressional confirmation.
Appeals court rules Florida ex-felons canโt vote until they pay fines, fees. How could that impact election?
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Florida ex-felons must pay all fines, restitution and legal fees before they can regain their right to vote, a federal appeals court ruled Friday. Now questions are swirling about whether this will have much of an effect on the November election in Florida. He said that while there is some data that shows ex-felons may vote more on the Democratic side, a large number register as no party affiliation. Binder said he doesnโt expect any further court rulings on this issue before the November election.
