The city of Jacksonville, in partnership with Agape Family Health and the Florida Department of Health in Duval County, on Thursday announced additional COVID-19 vaccination services at four city-funded locations.

The city of Jacksonville announced it will open three additional COVID-19 testing sites and the Health Department of Duval County will add two more sites to address increase free testing capacity across the region.

There was a long line Wednesday for COVID-19 testing at the site in Jacksonville’s Springfield neighborhood, but the same couldn’t be said for a popup vaccination site near the Main Street Bridge.

The line to get a COVID-19 test Tuesday at the Florida Health Department’s Duval Central Health Plaza in Springfield stretched around the building.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A one-day COVID-19 vaccination site is opening Monday at the Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church, News4Jax was told. In addition, Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church at 7850 Southside Boulevard hosted a pop-up vaccination clinic from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. News4Jax learned there were 200 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine available. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a single shot and does not require a second dose.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Housing Authority officials said Monday that state contractor Agape Family Health will hold vaccination clinics this month at two of its senior high-rises. Agape Family Health CEO Mia Jones has, for weeks, assisted in running the state vaccination site at Edward Waters College. After seeing News4Jax’s stories on JHA’s senior housing properties, she offered to vaccinate 500 of the authority’s residents this week. “I was surprised because I thought that all of the senior housing properties had been taken care of with the corporate pharmacies going out,” Jones said. Otis Bess Jr., 71, is a Vietnam veteran and a resident of JHA senior high-rise Centennial Towers.

The Florida-funded site is well-known, free to any resident of the state and a popular choice for patients looking to get tested. The city’s other public testing site -- the Legends Center at 5130 Soutel Dr. -- also open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. The Legends Center testing site will be closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Susan Rudgick said she arrived at the Regency Square testing site at 9 a.m. Wednesday to get a test before a trip to New York. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you’re looking to get tested for COVID-19 before the Christmas holiday, expect to be waiting in line. Not only are more people getting tested in preparation to travel for the holidays, but local and state sites will be closed Thursday, Christmas Eve, and Friday, Christmas Day. On Monday, the Regency Mall testing site set a record for most tests in a single day, with 3,499 tests completed. You might have noticed that photos of lines of masked people standing in line to vote are hard to distinguish from lines waiting to get COVID-19 tests. On Saturday, Duval County residents can exercise their right to vote and get a free coronavirus test at neighboring sites on Jacksonville’s Northside. Agape Family Health put together the event at its office at 1680 Dunn Ave., one block from the Highlands Regional Library, where early voting continues Saturday. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., there not only be free COVID tests available at Agape’s office, but there’ll also be free food and live music. Agape has offered free COVID-19 testing around the community for the last six or eight weeks and decided to offer tests at a site near a voting site to make it convenient for people to know if they are positive for the virus.

Agape Family Health is partnering with the Northeast Florida Community Collaborative and the city of Jacksonville to bring new COVID-19 testing sites to communities who need it the most.
