Two days before a Neptune Beach Publix made national headlines for selling the winning $1.58 billion Mega Millions ticket, the store attracted the unwanted attention of an armed robbery suspect, according to police.

Half of Neptune Beach police force in quarantine; 2 officers test positive for COVID-19
NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. Two officers of the Neptune Beach Police Department have tested positive for COVID-19, and another nine officers are in quarantine as a precaution, a commander of the department told News4Jax on Thursday. There are a total of 22 officers in the department. According to police, the nine officers came in contact with the affected officers. Commander Michael Key said it is not impacting the departments ability to patrol and respond to emergencies. He said all 32 staff members have been tested for the virus.
Police: Teen, adult rescued from rip current near Neptune Beach
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The National Weather Service warned of a high risk of rip currents at beaches in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia on Saturday. According to Commander Gary Snyder with the Neptune Beach Police Department, a teenager and an adult were caught in a rip current at about 2:30 p.m. The rip current risk is in effect until late in the night. Lifeguards say to keep yourself safe, check beach conditions before you go, and then when you arrive, look for the color of warning signs and flags. Gun stolen from car recovered, plus some pot, cash
NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. - A gun stolen last month from an unlocked vehicle in Neptune Beach was just recovered from a vehicle that crashed while trying to avoid being pulled over by police, according to the Neptune Beach Police Department. After crashing into a ditch, a teenager in the car ran from officers, but was taken into custody. Police said the juvenile suspect had 344 grams of marijuana, over $1,000 cash and drug paraphernalia with him during the arrest. "We can't urge you enough: LOCK your vehicles. Firearms should never be left inside an unattended vehicle or overnight," Neptune Beach police posted on the department's Facebook page.
Discovery of THC-laced gummies raises concerns ahead of Halloween
NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. - They might look delicious, but police confiscated THC-laced gummy bears that could wind up in the hands of children. On Nov. 14, a Neptune Beach officer arrested two men after police said they were caught with candies that contained marijuana. According to Duval County court records, Sanchez faces possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and drug paraphernalia charges. "(Parents) need to be ever vigilant," Key said Tuesday, nine days before Halloween. If it isnt sealed with a proper label, according to Key, parents should throw it out.
2 teens rescued from surf at Neptune Beach
NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. โ Two teenagers were rescued from the surf Saturday at Neptune Beach, the Neptune Beach Police Department said. The teenagers were rescued by two adults at about 1:15 p.m., police said. Police have not said if the teens and adults knew each other before the rescue. The teens and adults were taken to a nearby fire station for an assessment, police said. One of the teens and one of the adults were later taken to Baptist Medical Center Beaches for further evaluation, police said.
