The two people in the Mooney M20J, a single-engine low wing aircraft, that went down Sunday were rescued by nearby boaters, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue. Airplane crashes into marsh near St. Augustine airport
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Two people were injured when an airplane crashed into the intracoastal waterway Sunday morning near the Northeast Florida Regional Airport in St. Augustine. According to St. Johns County Fire Rescue, the passengers were pulled from the Mooney M20J, a single engine low wing aircraft, around 9:30 a.m. by nearby boaters. The pilot of the plane, St. Augustine resident John Bailey, told FHP investigators he was attempting to land at the airport and experienced mechanical failures, according to a crash report from FHP. "We were fishing in a small creek south of St. Augustine airport. All inbound and outbound flights were temporarily stopped at the St. Augustine airport, according to the airport's website.
Stunt pilot Patty Wagstaff's plane flips during landing in St. Augustine
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - Patty Wagstaff, a world-renowned flight instructor and stunt pilot, was injured Wednesday aboard a small plane that overturned during a landing at the Northeast Florida Regional Airport in St. Augustine, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The plane, a 1958 Beech K35, had landed and was taxiing when it went off the runway and flipped in the grass median, troopers said. The Highway Patrol said a 59-year-old man who was also on the plane was not hurt. After the accident, she posted a message on Twitter saying the plane had a mechancial issue:We had a mechanical problem in our V Tail Bonanza after landing a St Augustine this evening.
