Two teenagers got a bull shark from a stranger who caught it in Mayport last week and then they gutted it and stored the dead fish with ice overnight at a friend’s house before hoisting it from the rafters at Ponte Vedra High School as a senior prank, according to an incident report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission obtained Wednesday by News4JAX.

250 students, volunteers help clean up Guana Beach

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – More than 257 volunteers, mostly students, helped clean up GTMNERR (Guana) Beaches in South Ponte Vedra Beach on Sunday. Some of the schools represented were Ponte Vedra High School, Nease High School, Greenwood High School, Landrum Middle School, Fletcher Middle School, Palm Valley Academy, Ocean Palms Elementary, as well as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Student tests positive for coronavirus at St. Johns County school

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. A spokesperson for St. Johns County School District told News4Jax on Thursday that a student tested positive for COVID-19 at Ponte Vedra High School. Its believed to be the first case since classes at St. Johns County public schools resumed Monday. The school district says parents will be told if anyone in their childs class is infected, regardless of the exposure level. Melissa Kledzik, director of school health services, explained earlier in the week how the process will be conducted. Additionally, it asks if your child has been in contact with anyone who has tested positive or if anyone in your house is sick with any symptoms, she explained.

Ponte Vedra students ask Shad Khan to let them hold graduation at Jaguars stadium

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Ponte Vedra High School students are hoping the City of Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Jaguars can make their graduation dreams come true. The students wrote a letter to the city and to Shad Khan asking if they could hold an in-person graduation at TIAA Bank Field. The students at Ponte Vedra High School feel TIAA Bank Field has plenty of room where they can graduate safely with their class. The seniors say they respect the decisions made to stay safe from COVID-19 but they hope the city and Khan can bless their wishes to have a safe graduation in the stadium. Pro lacrosse draft selection a dream come true for area product Miles Silva

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Miles Silva first picked up a lacrosse stick when he was 4 years old. Now, the former Ponte Vedra High School lacrosse star is embarking on a career in the sport after being selected in the Major League Lacrosse draft earlier this month. I didnt really think probably until the later years of high school that I was good enough to even play in college, he said. When Silva found out he was being selected he thought it was too good to be true. I didnt really believe it at first and it didnt sink in a little bit, he said.

Former Ponte Vedra High band director accused of sex with teen

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office on April 29 arrested a St. Johns County music teacher accused of having sex with a teen. According to an arrest reported obtained Thursday by News4Jax, the sexual encounters happened at the Pasco County home of a 16-year-old boy, and Reynolds admitted it to investigators. Reynolds was the Ponte Vedra High School band director since 2016 and took the band to several state championship competitions, according to the school website. Records show he was the band director at Citrus High School for two years and Newberry High School, also for a two years. The St. Johns County School District said Reynolds resigned.

911 callers thought ‘assassin’ game was a real threat

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Fear can be heard in the voices of several people who called 911 during a game called “assassin" that deputies said some Ponte Vedra High School students took to “potentially dangerous levels." I couldn’t tell you what they were, but they’re all involved in this game of capturing somebody or something.”Community members who called 911 found the game threatening and not funny. Ponte Vedra High school officials sent parents a message, which reads in part:“There is a high potential for things to go tragically wrong. The PVHS administration strongly recommends that students forgo their participation in this game and behavior." Communities such as Marsh Landing sent out notices to residents about the high school game, encouraging them to call the Sheriff’s Office to report any reckless behavior.

’Assassin’ game triggers chaos in Ponte Vedra

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Ponte Vedra High School officials are encouraging students to stop participating in a highly-organized game called “assassin” after St. Johns County deputies said some of the participants took it to “potentially dangerous levels" this week. At first, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office didn’t know what was going on Monday afternoon after school got out at Ponte Vedra High, but the “chaos” was the result of the “assassin" game getting a bit out of hand. The chairmen sent a message to the participants to follow the rules and tone it down, in addition to the letter that the high school sent to parents. We are referring to a game called “assassin” and it has been reported that more than 300 students are participating. Students are engaging in this game off campus and after school hours, NOT during the school day on school property.

Cleburne WIlson honored as All-Star Athlete

Cleburne Wilson has been the captain of the swim team at Ponte Vedra High School for four years. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, Rho Kappa and the Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society. Cleburne has over 400 volunteer hours with various organizations, including the American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving Core, Habitat for Humanity and the Ponte Vedra Cultural Center. He currently has a 4.6 GPA.
