Moss upstages Taylor's return in Colts' 23-16 victory over Titans. Richardson injures shoulder
Zack Moss upstaged the return of Jonathan Taylor by running for a career-high 165 yards and two scores and Gardner Minshew was sharp in relief of the injured Anthony Richardson to lead the Indianapolis Colts past the Tennessee Titans 23-16.
Hurts returns from injury, leads Eagles to No. 1 seed in NFC
Jalen Hurts returned from a sprained right shoulder and threw for 229 yards under a conservative game plan in his first game in three weeks and the Philadelphia Eagles finally clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a 22-16 win over the New York Giants on Sunday night.
Preseason questions for Jaguars: Secondary, running backs and Minshewโs future
We continue our weeklong look at the biggest questions facing the Jaguars as the 2021 season approaches. This week, how the secondary looks to improve with a handful of new faces, how James Robinson and Travis Etienne will be used together and what the future holds for Gardner Minshew.
Jaguars sign QB Beathard, setting up potential Minshew trade
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed former San Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, giving them an experienced backup if they trade Gardner Minshew. Beathard signed a two-year contract with Jacksonville on Wednesday, giving the Jaguars an experienced backup if they trade Gardner Minshew. He started 12 games over four years in San Francisco, throwing for 3,469 yards, with 18 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions. That also makes him a potential trade option, especially with the Jaguars looking to rebuild under Meyer and new general manager Trent Baalke.

Coach Urban Meyer said on Friday that the team hasnโt settled on anything involving the quarterback room right now. Meyer said that he loves that Minshew is a โcompetitive maniac,โ and has enjoyed getting to know the third-year player. At this point, I know Gardner [Minshew II] a little bit.
Will Jaguars trade Gardner Minshew?

One QB to monitor: The #Jaguars have received a few calls from teams inquiring about QB Gardner Minshew, source said. The Jaguars invested a sixth-round pick in Minshew, but he has certainly shown that his worth more than that. In two seasons with the Jaguars, Minshew has thrown 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while starting 20 gamers, including eight this past year.
Jaguars fire Marrone; owner Khan plans to be more involved
Now, after nine NFL seasons and little success on the field, the Jacksonville Jaguars owner is taking a more hands-on approach to fixing the franchise's most glaring problems. Khan is handling the search for his next coach and general manager mostly alone, with some help from Jaguars President Mark Lamping. โThis time around, I think I have a much better sense myself,โ Khan said Monday after firing coach Doug Marrone. โWhat's evaded the history of the Jags really has been a franchise quarterback,โ Khan said. Khan kept Marrone in place after firing general manager Dave Caldwell in late November, but ultimately decided on a clean sweep.
Colts focused on playoffs as Jags look to future in Week 17
(Photo by Sam Greenwood/Getty Images)INDIANAPOLIS โ Colts coach Frank Reich made one thing perfectly clear this week. The Browns, Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens are all 10-5, like the Colts, but are ahead of Indy based on tiebreakers. Will Holden, who replaced Castonzo last week, has been ruled out this week with a knee injury. DEFENSIVE DEMISEThe Colts appear to be a virtual lock to score 24 points for the eighth consecutive week. The only time it held an opponent to fewer than 24 points this season was the Week 1 win over Indy.
Jags limp into finale with QB Glennon, without RB Robinson
(Photo by Sam Greenwood/Getty Images)JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The worst (and potentially best) season in Jacksonvilleโs relatively brief history is coming to a close. The Jaguars (1-14) already set a team record for consecutive losses (14) and an NFL record for consecutive games allowing at least 24 points (also 14). Coach Doug Marrone and his staff could be next, possibly within hours of the season finale. Marrone said Wednesday that quarterback Mike Glennon will start the finale instead of Gardner Minshew. I donโt try to look too far (ahead) and I donโt try to look too back in the past.

The only thing standing in the way of the small-market team drafting Lawrence is the juniorโs decision to turn pro. โSigning Nick Foles: The Jaguars gave Foles a four-year, $88 million deal in 2019 free agency that included $50.125 million guaranteed.

Casting call: Skidding Jaguars holding QB, GM auditions
(Photo by Julio Aguilar/Getty Images)The Jacksonville Jaguars are holding all sorts of auditions during Christmas week. Khan fired Dave Caldwell late last month and made former San Francisco executive Trent Baalke the interim GM. Smith, who spent a dozen seasons as Texans GM, already met with Atlanta and is expected to also interview with Detroit. Jacksonville (1-13), which has lost a franchise-record-tying 13 consecutive games, has arguably the most attractive GM opening in the league. Caldwell and Marrone took a chance on Minshew this season, but the 2019 sixth-round draft pick showed more flaws than flashes.
Mayor Lenny Curry: Jetsโ win could be defining moment for woeful Jaguars
Head coach Doug Marrone of the Jacksonville Jaguars looks on prior to their game against the Cleveland Browns at TIAA Bank Field on Nov. 29, 2020 in Jacksonville, Florida. โTHE New York freaking Jets delivered an early Christmas present to Jacksonville today,โ Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry posted on Twitter before vowing to light a victory cigar. โSeriously, this Jets win could be a defining moment for our ball club. Mark Brunell: Jaguarsโ loss to Ravens was their worst performance of a miserable season
In a season of misery, I can say that that performance against Baltimore was the worst of them all. I think we all just witnessed the worst loss in a season filled with losses. If you look solely at his numbers (22 of 29 passing, 226 yards, two touchdowns), they look good. While the Jaguars werenโt winning games, they were at least competitive mostly deep into the second half. The Jaguars might get a touchdown or two, but theyโre not winning games with this current offensive lineup.
Jackson leads surging Ravens to 40-14 rout of Jaguars
Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins runs with the ball against the Jacksonville Jaguars during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, in Baltimore. Instead, Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens enjoyed a feel-good, confidence-building blowout that boosted their chances of reaching the playoffs for the third consecutive year. Jackson threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score, and Baltimore built a 26-point halftime lead against helpless Jacksonville in a 40-14 victory Sunday. The Ravens (9-5) have won three straight following a three-game skid and remained in the hunt to secure one of three AFC wild-card spots. The highlight of the fourth quarter was a 22-yard first-down run by Baltimore offensive lineman Tyre Phillips with a Jackson fumble.
Soaring Ravens canโt afford letdown against lowly Jaguars
The Ravens would love to savor the memory of Lamar Jackson coming off the bench to throw a pivotal fourth-down touchdown pass before setting up Justin Tucker for a 55-yard winning field goal. So if the Ravens experience a letdown Sunday against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars (1-12), then Jackson's heroics in that epic 47-42 win over the Browns could turn out to be meaningless. โThese are professional players, and they understand that to make the last win matter, you have to win the next one," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. โI donโt know if itโs hitting their stride or just really executing on a real high level, both in the run game and in the pass game," coach Doug Marrone said of Baltimore. Rookie Jake Luton started three games while Minshew was out with a thumb injury and Mike Glennon started the following three games.
Jaguars making another change at QB, go back to Gardner Minshew
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Doug Marrone is going back to Gardner Minshew. The Jaguars coach said on Monday that he was making another change at quarterback, going back to Minshew over veteran Mike Glennon. The Jaguars (1-12) travel to Baltimore on Sunday mired in a 12-game losing streak. Minshew finished 18 of 31 for 178 yards and a touchdown, although looked shaky in the pocket. Minshew was found to have fractures in his thumb during the bye week and Marrone stuck with Glennon even when Minshew was healthy enough to return.
Mark Brunell: Where was the effort against the Titans?
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ I donโt think anyone expected the Jaguars to win on Sunday against the Titans. I know Doug Marrone didnโt announce his decision after the game, but I canโt imagine going back to Glennon at this point. In all likelihood, itโs going to be Minshew starting these next three games and the teams seeing what he can do. Youโre not going to see any of those players, Glennon, Jake Luton or Minshew, here long term. The Jaguars have three games left to change that direction, where itโs not the worst season weโve ever had.
Four takeaways: Jaguars have no answers for Henry, no clear-cut option at QB
The Jaguars are now 1-12 on the season and are one loss away from matching the longest losing skid in franchise history, and three losses away from the worst season in Jaguars history. The Jaguars had no answer for Derrick Henry, againThe Jaguars entered the game ranked 30th out of 32 teams in the NFL in run defense. Henry averaged 88.7 rushing yards per game against the Jaguars in his career before Sunday. With three games to go, Robinson ranks 13th in Jaguarsโ history with 1,035 rushing yards. He needs 289 yards in the final three games to finish in the top five in single-season rushing yards in Jaguarsโ history.
Henry runs wild, Titans hand Jags 12th straight loss, 31-10
So Vrabel stuck with Henry, who delivered a 20-yard run in the fourth quarter that helped him make NFL history. Henry ran for 215 yards and two touchdowns, his best performance in five trips to his hometown area, and the Titans dominated Jacksonville 31-10 on Sunday and handed the Jaguars a 12th consecutive loss. Enjoying a big performance about 25 miles from his hometown of Yulee was something new for Henry. Henry had 170 yards on 17 carries in the first 30 minutes, including a 36-yard touchdown run. He added a 47-yard scamper early in the third as the AFC South-leading Titans (9-4) started to pull away.
Derrick Henry, Titans run over reeling Jaguars
The Titans and a very familiar running back came to town and pulverized the Jaguars 31-10 on Sunday in a one-sided romp that saw Jacksonville change quarterbacks again. But no magic from Gardner Minshew could bail the Jaguars out of a season-worst 28-point hole that Yulee High graduate Derrick Henry and the Titans put them in as the march towards an all-time worst season continues. Full Screen 1 / 20 Laviska Shenault Jr. of the Jacksonville Jaguars runs the ball past Rashaan Evans of the Tennessee Titans at TIAA Bank Field on December 13, 2020 in Jacksonville, Florida. Henry was dominant in steamrolling a team that he grew up watching, cracking the 200-yard mark and pacing the Titans (9-4) much of the game. Henry ripped off a 36-yard touchdown run with 52 seconds before the break and the Jaguars proceeded to go three and out in just 35 seconds.
Mark Brunell: Jaguars need to give Gardner Minshew another shot
Why not think about going back to Gardner Minshew and see if he can get things moving. Weโve seen Luton. We havenโt seen Minshew since the Chargers game and he was playing with breaks in his thumb. I thought Glennon played well in last weekโs 27-25 loss to the Browns. If Marrone rolls the dice once more with Glennon, and unless he shows significant improvement, the Jaguars need to go back to Minshew.
Vikings still committed to core, as Jaguars starting over
The Jaguars, 9-30 since October 2018, initiated an aggressive teardown before last season and fired general manager Dave Caldwell last week. Even teams with no wins or few wins, itโs still a bunch of pro athletes with a bunch of pride, and theyโre going to show up and theyโre going to play hard and theyโre going to be coached well. Losing to Minnesota would serve to lower the second-round selection the Jaguars obtained for defensive end Yannick Ngakoue in late August. Ngakoue still leads the Vikings with five sacks despite being traded to Baltimore after six games. GLENNON AGAINThe Jaguars are sticking with quarterback Mike Glennon despite Gardner Minshew now being fully healthy from his thumb injury.
Even with Minshew healthy, Jaguars sticking with veteran Glennon at QB
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jaguars are sticking with Mike Glennon at quarterback, at least for this week. Coach Doug Marrone said on Wednesday that the coaching staff feels that the veteran gives the team the best shot to win right now. Week 1 starter Gardner Minshew is able to play, Marrone said, but Glennon is the guy for now. I thought he played well [last week],โ Marrone said. Minshew hasnโt played since a 39-29 loss to the Chargers in Week 7.

(AP Photo/Phelan M. Ebenhack)JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Quarterback Mike Glennon is getting another start for the Jacksonville Jaguars even though Gardner Minshew is fully healthy. Coach Doug Marrone said Wednesday heโs sticking with Glennon at Minnesota (5-6) on Sunday. It probably helped that Glennon was solid in his first start since Week 4 of the 2017 season. Glennon didnโt have a turnover โ the first time since the season opener Jacksonville played a clean game โ and wasnโt sacked. โThereโs no doubt that we are going to try to win every single game that we play,โ Marrone said.
Steelers' Roethlisberger active after virus-related absence
The unbeaten Pittsburgh Steelers wound up relatively healthy for their game against the AFC North rival Cincinnati Bengals following a brush with the novel coronavirus. Defensive tackle Tyson Alualu is also back after missing a game with a knee injury. Cincinnati is without running back Joe Mixon, whose lingering foot injury is forcing him to miss a third game in a row. Receiver Cooper Kupp, left tackle Andrew Whitworth and running back Darrell Henderson all were active after missing practices with injuries. Raiders: T Kolton Miller (ankle), DT Maurice Hurst (ankle), QB Marcus Mariota, RB Theo Riddick, G John Simpson, DT Daniel Ross.
Jaguars halfway home to another high pick, potential reboot
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ In what could be his final two months on the job, Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Marrone is making changes. Theyโre halfway home to another top-five draft pick and probably another significant reboot. Then again, since the Jaguars face the toughest schedule of anyone in the second half of the season, it might not matter. They play three divisions leaders (Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Tennessee), three second-place teams (Baltimore, Chicago, Indianapolis), plus Cleveland (5-3) and Minnesota (3-5). WHATโS WORKINGRunning back James Robinson has four touchdowns in three games, further establishing himself as the teamโs most consistent player.
Mark Brunell: Jaguars should see what they have in QB Jake Luton
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Itโs still a loss, but the Jaguars didnโt play like a team thatโs going in the tank on Sunday against the Texans. But I want to focus on the quarterback spot and the play from rookie quarterback Jake Luton, a sixth-round pick from Oregon State. Luton got DJ Chark back into the mix and Chark had been off the radar for weeks and out of sync with Minshew. I think that Luton, with what he showed against the Texans, certainly has earned another week of starting. I think the Jaguars should give him another chance and see what he can do.
When will it end? Losing skid reaches 7 as Jaguars fall to Texans
The Jaguars played far better than they had before the break, but the slide continued on Sunday at TIAA Bank Field. Jacksonvilleโs 27-25 loss to the Texans marked the seventh consecutive since a Week 1 win over the Colts. The Jaguars had three drives to try and tie things up in the final quarter and nearly did. The Jaguars visit Green Bay next week, the first team in a rugged second half schedule. Luton got the call to start over the Jaguars bye week when X-rays revealed fractures in the thumb of Minshew.
NFL home teams now 65-65-1 in this pandemic season
That means that going into tonightโs Saints-Buccaneers showdown, home teams are 65-65-1 so far this season. The .500 mark is lower than last yearโs .518 mark by home teams that was the lowest home field success rate since the NFL expanded to 32 teams in 2002. Las Vegas though has taken control on its first two drives of the second half. Neither had started an NFL game, but both have been in the league much longer than DiNucci. ___1:05 p.m.Eleven NFL teams entered Week 9 with two or fewer losses.
Could Texans-Jaguars be considered an AFC South pillow fight?
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jacksonville Jaguars have been here before. The Jaguars (1-6) are last in the AFC South, the same spot they occupied in each of the last two seasons and three times in the last four years. The Texans havenโt brought up the rear in the South since 2013. One of them will double their win total and escape the AFC South cellar when they meet Sunday. โMan, they just need to forfeit the game,โ Jaguars defensive end Josh Allen quipped.
โDream come trueโ for Jaguars rookie Jake Luton, but can he succeed on Sunday?
Although the Texans, like the Jaguars, are struggling with a 1-6 record, the obstacles to success for Luton are many. I had my girlfriend calling plays to me, but they donโt exactly know how to spit it out the right way, the right verbiage. That may be an accurate scouting report, but Luton has yet to face an NFL defense or a live rush. On a Jaguars offense that has been struggling to score points (perhaps, somewhat due to Minshew playing with an injury on his throwing hand), can the Jaguars devise some ways to let Luton play free and easy? โI dreamed of playing in NFL and getting that opportunity to step out here will definitely be a dream come true.โ
Marrone looking forward to seeing what rookie Luton can do
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A rookie sixth-round quarterback preparing to make his first NFL start for the Jaguars because of an injury โ sound familiar? Jaguars coach Doug Marrone has a bit of experience with this. So, when Jake Luton makes the start for the Jaguars (1-6) on Sunday against the Texans (1-6) at TIAA Bank Field, itโs something that both Marrone and Jaguars fans know all too well about. On Sunday, Marrone and the Jaguars will get another look at a sixth-round rookie quarterback in Luton, who will start in place of Minshew. Because itโs a unique position, especially now this year without the preseason games where you can kind of see him in the preseason games, where things are going fast and youโve got have a lot of bodies flying around you,โ Marrone said.
Rookie Jake Luton will start Sunday for Jaguars
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ With Gardner Minshew dealing with a thumb injury, Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said Monday that he will go with rookie Jake Luton as the teamโs starting quarterback Sunday against the Houston Texans. Luton, like Minshew, was a 6th round pick of the Jaguars. Unlike Minshew, Luton did not have the benefit of preseason games to get his feet underneath him in the preseason. When asked if there was anything that he could see in practice that would cause Marrone to not start Luton, Marrone said, โIโve watched him enough (in practice). Luton will become the fifth quarterback to start a game for the Jaguars since Doug Marrone took over.
Four things the Jaguars should do after the bye week
The Jaguars drafted 12 players this year. If so, the Jaguars will have to allocate a sizable chunk to Robinson, who plays the premium position of left tackle. Andrew Norwell goes from being a $12 million cap hit to a $15 million cap hit, but his dead money drops from $18 million to $6 million, so the Jaguars have more flexibility to move on from him if needed. And, it would be a shock if the Jaguars would move on from Jawaan Taylor at right tackle. We saw the Jaguars in 2018 start to fray at the seams later in the season.
Franchise futility: Jaguars' QB history filled with failure
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Doug Marrone canโt help but chuckle when reminded what heโs had at quarterback during his NFL head coaching career. โAt the end of the day, you have to do the best job you can with the players that you have. Minshew has a strained ligament and multiple fractures in his right thumb, according to a person familiar with the situation. The injury could prompt Marrone to turn to rookie Jake Luton after the teamโs bye week. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity Thursday because the Jaguars (1-6) have not disclosed Minshewโs injury publicly.
Report: Jaguars QB Minshew dealing with fractures, strained ligament in right thumb
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew is battling serious discomfort in his right hand and X-rays this week showed that he has multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his thumb, ESPN reported. According to ESPNโs Adam Schefter, the Jaguars didnโt know about his injury until this week. ESPN reported that Minshew has had the pain in his thumb since a loss to the Texans on Oct. 11. It isnโt known if Minshew will be healthy enough to play when the Jaguars host the Texans on Nov. 8. He has struggled since Week 2 and the Jaguars are mired in a six-game losing streak.
Mark Brunell: Not many changes Jaguars can make to turn things around
Is this where the Jaguars make wholesale changes and shake things up to turn things around for the second half of the season? At this point, I donโt know what else there is to do for the Jaguars. I saw the report earlier Sunday about the Jaguars potentially pulling Gardner Minshew and playing backup Mike Glennon. I donโt think Doug Marrone wants to do that. I donโt think Marrone should replace Minshew and I donโt think he will.
Four takeaways: Do Jaguars make a change at QB?
The QB question at the byeWith the Jaguars bye week pushed back to the first weekend of November, the team has played seven game with Gardner Minshew as the quarterback this season. In fact, the Jaguars didnโt achieve a first down until there was less than 11 minutes left in the second quarter. That being said, when the Jaguars needed Minshew to make plays in the fourth quarter, he did not. Not only is he a guy the Jaguars can build around for the future, he is the present of the Jaguars offense. That was a big play, but the true turnaround actually took place in the second quarter when the Jaguars offense and defense started to show up.

The rookie threw for a season-high 347 yards and three touchdowns as well as running for a score as the Chargers defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 39-29 to snap a four-game losing streak. James Robinson led the Jaguars with 119 rushing yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving). After Badgley's 35-yard field goal on the opening drive, rookie Joe Reed scored his first NFL touchdown on a 7-yard jet sweep around right end. It was the Chargers' first rushing touchdown since Herbert in Week 2 against Kansas City.
Jaguars limp into bye week with 6th straight loss as questions mount
Keenan Allen of the Los Angeles Chargers runs the ball against CJ Henderson of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first quarter at SoFi Stadium on October 25, 2020 in Inglewood, California. The Jaguars went back and forth with the Chargers, but couldnโt close things out on the West Coast in a 39-29 loss in Los Angeles on Sunday. The Jaguars enter the bye week at 1-6 and losers of six consecutive games. Minshew connected with Chris Conley on a 28-yard touchdown pass and found Ben Ellefson for a two-point conversion for a 29-22 lead. Jacksonville went for two-point conversions three times and went for it on fourth down four times.
The Latest: Seahawks lead Cardinals 27-17 at halftime
___10:09 p.mArizona Cardinals linebacker Isaiah Irving has been carted off the field after a collision on a kickoff just before halftime against the Seattle Seahawks. Jaguars look for ways to get offense back into a rhythm
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Two weeks into the season, Jay Gruden and the Jaguars offense had fans excited. Six games into the season, the offense has hit the skids. The Jaguars have failed to score 20 points in half of their games this season. There canโt be any finger-pointing.โFor the offense to really get humming Gardner Minshew will have to take his play to the next level. In each of the Jaguars five losses this season, Minshew has had at least one turnover.
Fixing, not firing, is the path Jaguars coach Doug Marrone is focusing on
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Doug Marrone doesnโt see big changes making a big difference for the struggling Jaguars. If there were a change to make, Marrone said that heโd gladly be willing to make it. But the issues plaguing the Jaguars have been so widespread week to week that thereโs not one simple fix to get things turned back around. A day after the Jaguars' fifth straight loss, Marrone said that there arenโt clear-cut personnel changes that would help. Marrone said that the team is trying to put players in the best position possible but knows that the losing skid opens him up to skepticism.
Mark Brunell: Minshew and Jaguars offense going backwards
Thatโs five straight losses for the Jaguars and Sundayโs 34-16 clunker may have been the worst among all those defeats. We know the defense struggles, but you canโt score 16 points in the NFL and expect to win. I know the defense gave up nearly 200 yards on the ground and a lot of points, but this loss was on the offense. I think the overall consensus at this point is that Minshew is not a franchise quarterback. We know the defense is going to give up points week after week.
No end in sight: Jaguars dominated in loss to Lions
Chark of the Jacksonville Jaguars during the second quarter in the game at TIAA Bank Field on October 18, 2020 in Jacksonville, Florida. The slide continued for the Jaguars, who were knocked around from open to close by the Lions in a 34-16 loss at TIAA Bank Field on Sunday. After three straight losses to previously winless teams (Dolphins, Bengals, Texans), the Jaguars found the one-win Lions just as challenging to stop. The defense gave up 185 rushing yards, the bulk of those to Swift (116 yards on 14 carries, two TDs) and 40 more (and a TD) to Adrian Peterson. As a team, the Jaguars finished with 44 yards rushing on 16 carries.
5 Jacksonville brunch spots worth checking out

Marrone wants Jaguars to refocus after uneven start to season
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ No doubt that the Jaguars have had a challenging and erratic start to the season. Doug Marrone is trying to bring things back to the basics and help players refocus. What was a solid 1-1 start had spiraled into what fans had probably expected to see from the Jaguars (1-2) this season. And among the heavy rookie presence on the Jaguars, undrafted free agent running back James Robinson has had quite the start. When the games came and Marrone saw that Robinson could pass protect and contribute offensively, he was impressed.
Mark Brunell: Jaguars take a big step back with listless showing against Dolphins
We had some big games, big wins on Monday Night Football. We had some big games and big wins on Thursday nights and on Sunday nights. And then to come out and play like that, on national TV, no less, was a major step back for the Jaguars. Thursday night was a big step back. A big step back.
Fitzpatrick handles Jaguars again, this time with Dolphins

(AP Photo/Phelan M. Ebenhack)JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Ryan Fitzpatrick handles the Jacksonville Jaguars as well as anyone in the NFL. Fitzpatrick completed his first 12 passes โ a career high โ as Miami scored touchdowns on its first three drives for the first time since 2011. Fitzpatrick also ran for 39 yards and a score, his 37-year-old legs looking as fresh as any in Miamiโs backfield. โAs a group we just didn't get it done,โ said Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew, who completed 30 of 42 passes for 275 yards and two turnovers. The Jaguars have won two in a row against the Bengals, notching victories in 2017 and 2019.
Not quite ready for primetime: Jaguars fall flat against Dolphins
As leaky as the defense played early in those games, it got better as the game went on. There was no second half burst by the offense. Despite his two rushing touchdowns, Robinson was limited to 46 yards on the ground. The Jaguars defense has allowed 62 first-half points in the first three weeks. โข Robinson now has three rushing touchdowns this season, equaling the number of rushing scores that the Jaguars had last season.
Jaguars see Thursday night game as chance to improve reputation
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Thursday nightโs game offers a chance for the Jaguars to change the narrative around the team. Now, with the 0-2 Dolphins coming to town, the Jaguars are actually favored to win, being installed by oddsmakers as three-point favorites. So, 1-1 in the division is a great spot to be.โThe game will also feature more teal than we have seen before. The Jaguars have done well in primetime games, winning the last four meetings under the lights. This offseason, the Jaguars signed Joe Schobert as a free agent, who supplanted Jack at the middle linebacker spot.
