All blood donors are asked to wear a mask. If a blood donor does not have a mask, one will be supplied to the donor. Blood donors should follow the guidelines for wearing masks in the county where the blood drive is taking place.

People need blood when they need it.Blood centers across the country are feeling the sting of the pandemic as it gets harder to keep up with the demand for blood. The blood center here at OneBlood, our way that we operate has been indefinitely disrupted with the pandemic, Forbes said. So those are all in question -- yet high schools, colleges and universities account for 20% of the blood supply, Forbes said. She said making a blood donation every time you are eligible helps ensure a ready blood supply is available 24/7.

OneBlood is a donation center that has been collecting COVID-19 convalescent plasma since April from those who have recovered from the virus, but the need is great and that why they are looking for donations from those who have recovered from COVID-19. "We have seen through our hospital partners in cases where the plasma has helped an aid in recovery of patients," Forbes said. She added convalescent plasma is showing a promising result for many people. Walk-in COVID-19 convalescent plasma donations at OneBlood donor centers and mobile buses are not accepted at this time.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. People donating blood can now be tested for the COVID-19 antibodies through OneBlood. Within about 48 hours, people eligible to donate blood can find out if their immune system has produced antibodies to the novel coronavirus, regardless of whether they had symptoms. We want to avoid a shortage, said Susan Forbes, senior vice president of corporate communications for OneBlood. "At first, I was crushed and then I was mad.Forbes the delay was because the organization had to update its computer systems to reflect the new donor eligibility criteria. These individuals can donate blood as long as their trip was more than three months ago.
