JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Black Films Matter had planned to bring the community together safely this Saturday through a drive-in movie screening of the much-anticipated cult classic sequel Coming 2 America. Unfortunately, rainy weather canceled two of the three showings. In partnership with 1Bridge and other black-owned partners, Black Films Matter’s pop-up screening will provide food trucks, vendors, and pre-show entertainment, including local artists, African dance and drumming, and more. They are currently working on an indoor location for anyone wanting to watch the movie at 8 p.m. if the drive-in is canceled for today. If the 8 p.m. showing is canceled, Black Films Matter and 1Bridge will announce “a bigger and better plan for April/May 2021” next week, where all current ticket purchases will be honored.

When she started receiving calls from other Duval County residents asking about the same kind of calls, she started digging deeper. She called the health department, the Regency vaccine site and the State Department of Health and found out that the state does have schedulers who are calling people who register through the state’s vaccine scheduling line. “When they register, they do not talk to a live person,” explained Dr. Pauline Rolle, medical director of the Duval County Health Department. But she urged people to please answer so they do not miss their chance to book a vaccine appointment. AdShe wants everyone to understand that a legitimate health department scheduler will not ask for any financial or personal information.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Duval County Health Department begins administering second doses Monday for people who got their vaccine at the site 28 days earlier. The vaccine site the Prime Osborn Convention Center is no longer providing first doses of the vaccine, as all public COVID-19 vaccinations in Duval County have moved to Regency Mall. But anyone who received their first dose at the convention center is asked to return at the same time 28 days later to receive their second Moderna shot. Most who were vaccinated in the first few days were Jacksonville Fire-Rescue employees and those who work for the city of Jacksonville, so they will be returning this week. Florida residents 65 or older and front-line health care workers who have not had their first shot of the vaccine can call 866-200-3762 to make an appointment at Regency.

Not only are more people getting tested in preparation to travel for the holidays, but local and state sites will be closed Thursday, Christmas Eve, and Friday, Christmas Day. On Monday, the Regency Mall testing site set a record for most tests in a single day, with 3,499 tests completed. Officers preparing for a shift change at the substation heard the shots around 1:30 a.m. and found a car stopped in the road at the Arlington intersection. Four others who were inside the car that was stopped on Beach Boulevard were taken into custody to be interviewed by detectives. They said it was clear the car on Atlantic Boulevard was targeted because it was shot about a dozen times. By 6 a.m., the bullet-riddled car on Atlantic Boulevard had been towed away and all lanes had reopened. The second scene on Beach Boulevard at Cortez Road cleared about 90 minutes later.

The driver was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and is not expected to survive the shooting, according to JSO. They said it was clear the car on Atlantic Boulevard was targeted because it was shot about a dozen times. By 6 a.m., the bullet-riddled car on Atlantic Boulevard had been towed away and all lanes had reopened. The car at Beach Boulevard and Cortez Road was towed away before 7:30 a.m. and all lanes reopened on Beach Boulevard.
