Before the meeting, the president attended a morning Mass at the aptly named St. Patrickโs Church near his family home in Wilmington, Delaware, then returned to the White House to partake in the St. Patrickโs Day celebrations, which were toned down due to the coronavirus pandemic. In keeping with recent tradition, the water in fountains outside the White House ran green for the day. Biden and Martin also emphasized their commitment to addressing global challenges and combating the coronavirus, among other issues, the White House said.

Tents were already setup Tuesday evening at Culhaneโs Irish Pub on the Southside well ahead of the celebration. We grew up with the parades in Ireland, and we love the Irish spirit, the hospitality. Itโs what we are all about, getting together with family and friends and having a pint and celebrating St. Patrickโs Day,โ said Mary Jane Culhane, co-owner of the Irish pub. Culhane says getting to serve green beer this St. Patrickโs Day is a turning point for things starting to get back to normal.
