Another shooting along Harts Road on Jacksonville’s Northside is raising new concerns about crime in the area and prompting renewed calls for safety improvements.

Jacksonville police responded to a shooting around 10:15 p.m. on Heritage Lake Drive near the 900 block. Officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Councilman Reggie Gaffney said the River City Inn has been declared a public nuisance, and he will ask the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to increase area patrols and surveillance.

Back-to-back shootings just a few hundred feet apart are raising concerns along Harts Road in Jacksonville, and now, a city councilman is stepping in with plans to increase safety in the area.

The American Red Cross assisted at least 19 displaced families after a fire at a Northside apartment complex on Harts Road.

A domestic dispute in a Northside Jacksonville home spilled out into the street Tuesday and a man was fatally shot, police said.

A man is recovering in the hospital after he was shot multiple times on the city’s Northside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

A Jacksonville man plead guilty to vehicular homicide and was sentenced to 10 years after his role in a deadly 2021 crash on the Northside.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s now easier for the city of Jacksonville to shut down problem hotels and businesses that allow crimes to continue on their property. It all stems from a hotel on Harts Road, the Gold Rush Inn, which was closed by the city in December. In order to do that, the city had to go to the state to get an order to shut the business down, because local laws would not allow the city to force the business to close, despite ongoing reports of criminal activity. Those laws changed Tuesday night when the City Council voted to form a new board that will oversee criminal complaints at businesses. After review by the sheriff’s office, the nuisance abatement board could take action if the owner does not fix the problem and get rid of criminal elements.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Time’s up for guests of a troubled Jacksonville motel. Monday was the deadline for those staying at the Gold Rush Inn on Harts Road to move out. In closing the motel, the state cited several health and safety issues. According to the state order, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has received nearly 200 calls for service to the motel in the last three months alone. As part of the shutdown, the motel isn’t allowed to book any new guests until the health and public safety issues have been adequately addressed.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – People staying at the Gold Rush Inn on Harts Road were caught off guard Wednesday when news broke the state was shutting the motel down. He said he is getting help in the form of a $1,200 voucher from the city. City and state officials say they did the right thing due to the unsafe conditions. He noted that the city is giving motel residents until Thursday to clear out, and they’ll be given assistance. “I think we could’ve declared this a public nuisance under a city ordinance sometime ago,” State Sen. It’s unclear exactly how many residents will be affected by the emergency closure, or how long the closure is expected to last.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – City Councilman Reggie Gaffney is renewing his call for the Gold Rush Inn on Harts Road to be closed after a shooting there on Sunday evening. “I go to bed praying every night that nothing happens on Harts Road at this hotel,” Gaffney said. “They have reached out to the sheriff they have reached out to the city,” Gaffney said of the response by the Department of Business Professional Regulation. JSO says they killed each other when an argument escalated, later saying a 26-year old man killed Dario Martinez in self-defense.

Community members have called for the hotel to be shut down after hundreds of incidents and there this year alone. Many of seven fatal shootings on Harts Road this year are connected to the hotel. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was found shot inside a car after a two-car crash on the Northside and later died, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Saturday. Police found a two-vehicle crash in the intersection of Harts Road and Dunn Avenue, and inside one of the involved cars, they found a man, about 35 years old, suffering from a gunshot wound. Police said it appeared from the evidence at the scene that the man was shot while inside his vehicle and then crashed in the road at some point. Investigators say then another car that was traveling south on harts road crashed into him. Saturday’s incident was the seventh deadly shooting on Harts Road this year, according to News4Jax records.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Between 4:40 and 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was called to four separate shootings in four different parts of town. About four hours later a 33-year-old man was found shot to death in a ditch on Higginbotham Street in Baldwin. (EDITOR’S NOTE: News4Jax previously reported that this incident was a homicide, but we learned from JSO Thursday morning the man survived.) JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man is dead after he was found shot multiple times Wednesday afternoon at a gas station on Harts Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Adam Blinn said units were dispatched to Valero gas station on Harts Road north of Dunn Avenue just after 4:30 p.m. “It appears there was a fight between several individuals just prior to the gunshots,” Blinn said. He did not have the make and model of the vehicle, which was heading north on Harts Road. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office were sent to investigate two shootings in different parts of town Friday night. The first scene was on Ricker Road near the intersection of Melvin Road on Jacksonvilles Westside. The other scene was on Harts Road, just north of Dunn Avenue on the Northside. As of Thursday, News4Jax records show there had been 56 shootings reported in Jacksonville during the month of July. News4Jax is working to obtain information from police.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A woman is dead after a she was run over on Dunn Avenue at Harts Road in Jacksonville. Florida Highway Patrol Investigators said the crash happened when the woman was attempting to get to opposite side of the road when a 53-year-old driver in a pick-up truck traveling in the right lane of Dunn Avenue, hit her. The woman was rushed to the hospital but she died from her injuries. A report shows the crash happened Wednesday night just before 11 p.m. The report doesnt show if charges against the driver are pending.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two men died and two more men were wounded in four separate incidents Sunday in Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said the man died sometime overnight, but they did not have an exact time frame. Police said it was determined that the man died of unknown injuries. About 1 p.m., police responded to multiple gunshots fired in the area of Maclean Road, north of West 33rd Street, in the Royal Terrace neighborhood of Northwest Jacksonville.
