MYLES JACK

Goodbye, Myles: Jaguars releasing veteran linebacker Myles Jack

After their big spending spree to kick off free agency, the Jaguars are releasing linebacker and fan favorite Myles Jack, according to ESPN.

Where did it all go wrong? Jaguars veterans weigh in

The Jaguars are 60 minutes away from ending the least satisfying season in franchise history. They won fewer games last year, but this season’s embarrassments, both on and off the field, have left the team shaken, the fan base incensed, and the franchise at a crossroads. So where did it all go wrong?

Jaguars set to start interview process for next head coach

The Jacksonville Jaguars are getting an earlier-than-usual start on their coaching search.

Garoppolo throws 2 more TDs, 49ers dominate Jaguars 30-10

Jimmy Garoppolo threw two touchdown passes for the third consecutive week and the San Francisco 49ers dominated Jacksonville 30-10 on Sunday for their third win in four games.

Tagovailoa to start, CBs Howard, Jones out for Dolphins

Tua Tagovailoa will start but the Miami Dolphins will be without starting cornerbacks Xavien Howard and Byron Jones for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

QBs, big names plentiful among injured early in NFL season

About a third of the starting quarterbacks have missed time because of injuries, and Richard Sherman’s return to the NFL was hastened by Tampa Bay’s need at cornerback.

Four factors: The losing streak has to end sometime, why not this week against the Dolphins?

At some point, the streak has to end, right? It would only be fitting for the Jaguars’ first home win in over a year to come in the game that is the farthest away from Jacksonville (4,272 miles).

Joe Burrow taken to hospital; Daniel Jones carted off field

Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals was taken to a hospital as a precaution after suffering a bruised throat and Daniel Jones of the New York Giants was carted off the field with a concussion on a rough day for young quarterbacks.

Trevor Lawrence voted one of team captains for Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence is starting the season at quarterback — and as a team captain.

UFC 261 returned a sense of normalcy to the sports world with a packed house, a raucous crowd and another victory for Kamaru Usman.

Jaguars free agency 2021: Checking out the team’s defensive needs

Defensive needs: DL, S, CB, EDGE. Defensive lineCoach Urban Meyer said that he wants to build a defense from the line and work back from there. With Leonard Williams getting tagged by the Giants, Tomlinson is the top interior lineman in free agency, and a player who the Jaguars should make a priority. Middle linebacker Joe Schobert, one of the final major free agent signings of Dave Caldwell’s tenure, was an above-average player last season. Hilton, who was signed by the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2016, could be a nice addition as a nickel.

Jaguars poised to spend big, rebuild quickly in free agency

Free agency feels a lot like recruiting to new Jaguars coach Urban Meyer. It certainly should help that the Jaguars have more salary cap space (nearly $73 million) than any other team. (AP Photo/Jay LaPrete, File)JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Free agency feels a lot like recruiting to new Jaguars coach Urban Meyer. Clemson star Trevor Lawrence is the presumptive choice, and the Jaguars will use free agency to build around him. “That’s a room that’s going to have to be rebuilt in some ways,” said Meyer, who could sign Hunter Henry, Jonnu Smith or Gerald Everett when free agency officially begins Wednesday.

Icemen ownership group will be part of new ECHL franchise in Savannah

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three members of the Jacksonville Icemen’s ownership group will have a hand in a the ECHL’s newest franchise in Savannah. The league announced that the Savannah Professional Hockey Team will begin play in the ECHL in 2022-23 season. The team will play in the new Savannah Arena. Icemen owner Andy Kaufmann, team president Bob Ohrablo and executive vice president Scott Einhorn will serve in various capacities with Savannah’s new ECHL entry. Ohrablo will be the Savannah franchise’s governor and Einhorn as the executive vice president.

Casting call: Skidding Jaguars holding QB, GM auditions

(Photo by Julio Aguilar/Getty Images)The Jacksonville Jaguars are holding all sorts of auditions during Christmas week. Khan fired Dave Caldwell late last month and made former San Francisco executive Trent Baalke the interim GM. Smith, who spent a dozen seasons as Texans GM, already met with Atlanta and is expected to also interview with Detroit. Jacksonville (1-13), which has lost a franchise-record-tying 13 consecutive games, has arguably the most attractive GM opening in the league. Caldwell and Marrone took a chance on Minshew this season, but the 2019 sixth-round draft pick showed more flaws than flashes.

Jags on verge of tying another franchise record for futility

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The last time the Jacksonville Jaguars lost nine consecutive games, owner Shad Khan fired coach Gus Bradley before they left the stadium. Jacksonville (1-8) dropped its eighth straight at Green Bay on Sunday and can match the longest, single-season skid in franchise history against unbeaten Pittsburgh. “All I know is we’re putting everything in this thing and we’re fighting our butts off,” Marrone said. But the end results might not be enough to save Marrone and Caldwell, who have dropped 19 of their past 28 games. KEY NUMBER8 — number of consecutive games Jacksonville has with at least one turnover, coinciding with its losing streak.

Jaguars battle, but drop 8th straight game in loss to Packers

Robert Tonyan of the Green Bay Packers reaches for a pass between Daniel Thomas (L) and Myles Jack of the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lambeau Field on November 15, 2020 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Green Bay woke up when it needed to. But Green Bay had back-to-back sacks of Luton and nearly sacked him again on a fourth-and-26 play. That play was set up by Sidney Jones' pick of Rodgers, the Packers' second giveaway of the second half that led to Jacksonville points. Robinson rushed for 109 yards on 23 carries and Cole caught Luton’s lone touchdown pass of the game.

Jaguars halfway home to another high pick, potential reboot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In what could be his final two months on the job, Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Marrone is making changes. They’re halfway home to another top-five draft pick and probably another significant reboot. Then again, since the Jaguars face the toughest schedule of anyone in the second half of the season, it might not matter. They play three divisions leaders (Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Tennessee), three second-place teams (Baltimore, Chicago, Indianapolis), plus Cleveland (5-3) and Minnesota (3-5). WHAT’S WORKINGRunning back James Robinson has four touchdowns in three games, further establishing himself as the team’s most consistent player.

Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Devin Bush (55) is helped from the field after he was injured in the first half of an NFL football game against the Cleveland Browns, Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020, in Pittsburgh. Puskar)Pittsburgh second-year inside linebacker Devin Bush sustained what coach Mike Tomlin called a “significant knee injury” in Pittsburgh’s 38-7 rout of the Browns on Sunday. Board has movement in his limbs after suffering a concussion and neck injury in the team’s 20-19 win over Washington. Bush, who had not missed a defensive snap all season, injured his left knee in the second quarter when he took an awkward step while attempting to break up a pass. Also, Giants cornerback Darnay Holmes suffered a neck injury in the game.

Four takeaways: Jaguars look miserable in loss to Lions

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – We’re running out of ways to discuss the Jaguars' struggles, and we’re only in mid-October. Jacksonville gave up more than 30 points for the fifth straight week in a 34-16 loss to the Lions on Sunday. TerribleThis was one of the worst performances I’ve seen from the Jaguars in a long time. Facing a team giving up a league-worst 170 yards per game on the ground, the Jaguars managed just 44 rushing yards. After a lost 2019, Cole continued to play week, catching six passes for 143 yards against the Lions.

Falcons WR Julio Jones out again with hamstring injury

Jones had been listed as questionable after missing practice throughout the week with a hamstring injury. Even so, the winless Falcons’ secondary gets a boost with safeties Keanu Neal (hamstring) and Ricardo Allen (elbow) returning from injuries. ___PHILADELPHIA AT PITTSBURGHEagles: TE Hakeem Butler; RB Jason Huntley, WR DeSean Jackson, WR Alshon Jeffery, CB Avonte Maddox, QB Nate Sudfeld, DE Casey Toohill. Falcons: S Jaylinn Hawkins, WR Julio Jones, CB A.J. Ravens: RB Justice Hill, WR Chris Moore, QB Trace McSorley, DT Broderick Washington, DT Justin Ellis, OL Tyre Phillips.

Jaguars rule out top pass rusher Josh Allen at Texans

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without their best pass rusher at Houston on Sunday. Defensive end Josh Allen, who has two of the team's four sacks this season, was downgraded to out and did make the trip Saturday. Jacksonville (1-3) could be down three more defensive regulars against the Texans (0-4). The team could get a boost with the return of starting safety Jarrod Wilson (hamstring). Wilson and linebacker Quincy Williams (core muscle injury) were moved from the IR designated for return list to the 53-man roster Saturday.

Mixon's 3 TDs pace Bengals in 33-25 win over Jaguars

Cincinnati Bengals outside linebacker Jordan Evans (50) celebrates late in the second half of an NFL football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Cincinnati, Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020. The Bengals defeated the Jaguars 33-25. After linebacker Jordan Evans intercepted a tipped Gardner Minshew pass, the Bengals started on Jacksonville’s 40 and got nowhere, Burrow overthrowing an open A.J. The Jags added a field goal with 8 seconds left, but the ensuing onside kick was unsuccessful. He missed a 48-yard field goal in the first quarter but converted on four others, including a 50-yarder in the second half.

Four takeaways: So, what now for Jaguars after 3rd straight loss?

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars went to Cincinnati and gave rookie Joe Burrow his first victory in the NFL, a 33-25 loss that dropped the Jaguars to 1-3 on the season, their third straight loss. It’s the first time this year the Jaguars opponent didn’t start the game with a touchdown. However, on the subsequent Bengals drive, Cincy took the lead with a field goal. Before the Jaguars rolled into town, the Bengals had given up the most sacks and quarterback hits in the NFL. For the third straight game, the Jaguars gave up at least 30 points.

Still reeling: Jaguars can’t stop Bengals as slide continues

Gardner Minshew II of the Jacksonville Jaguars drops back to throw a pass during the first quarter of the game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium on October 4, 2020 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bullied, banged up physically and not even competitive in spots, the Jaguars left Cincinnati with a 33-25 loss and momentum quickly careening in the wrong direction. That such a statement was delivered by the Bengals of all teams shows just how much work lies ahead for Jacksonville. The Jaguars visit the Texans (0-4) next week with sole possession of the cellar in the division at stake. After a woeful start to the second half (the Bengals outscored Jacksonville 20-3 in the first 22 minutes after the break) Jacksonville made a push.

Jaguars see Thursday night game as chance to improve reputation

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Thursday night’s game offers a chance for the Jaguars to change the narrative around the team. Now, with the 0-2 Dolphins coming to town, the Jaguars are actually favored to win, being installed by oddsmakers as three-point favorites. So, 1-1 in the division is a great spot to be.”The game will also feature more teal than we have seen before. The Jaguars have done well in primetime games, winning the last four meetings under the lights. This offseason, the Jaguars signed Joe Schobert as a free agent, who supplanted Jack at the middle linebacker spot.

Jaguars, with shot to move to 2-0, eager to end slide in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Starting 2-0 is an opportunity the Tennessee Titans simply haven’t seized in a very long time. “So, yeah, I think it’s a big game for us, it’s a big game because it’s a divisional game. Jack and Jones led the way Sunday as Jacksonville held Indy to 88 yards rushing — more than 50 yards under what it allowed last year. Henry also is averaging 104.3 yards rushing against AFC South teams since becoming the starter in 2018. His 1,251 yards rushing inside the division lead the NFL in that time, a total that includes 498 yards rushing against the Jaguars.

Overlooked? Underrated? Marrone thinks Jaguars ‘can be special’

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have a chance to surprise, possibly even shock, much of the NFL. 1 draft pick in April — and assembling one of the youngest rosters in the league, the Jaguars are mostly a league-wide afterthought. The Jaguars don’t care. “I really think that this team can be special,” coach Doug Marrone said Wednesday. “We don’t feel like we’re underdogs at all,” receiver DJ Chark said.

Commentary: Who won, lost Ngakoue trade

If they land a player of Ngakoues impact and another regular contributor, perhaps you can make the case that the Jaguars won the trade. If Ngakoue plays as well as he did for the Jaguars, the trade value is certainly worth it. I can tell you who the losers are in the deal: Jaguars fans. Those loyal punching bags once again saw a player the team drafted, be productive, and then not get to a second contract. The Jaguars drafted Ngakoues replacement last year and Josh Allen delivered as a rookie.

As training camp begins, Jaguars face a slew of unanswered questions

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. NFL training camp is set to open amidst a slew of new safety protocols on Tuesday due to COVID-19. The News4Jax sports staff looks at training camp storylines entering the most unusual season in league history. I think Ngakoue is dealt at some point. If the Jaguars embrace the fact that Ngakoue isnt going to play, they dont have much to lose. JS: The league better start to put some respect on Josh Allens name.

A.J. Bouye on Jaguars: Challenging final season in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. In March, the Jaguars traded veteran cornerback A.J Bouye to the Broncos and by all indications, he was ready to move on. I couldnt control what was going on in Jacksonville, I tried to keep a positive attitude and kept grinding, he said. Among Jaguars defensive stalwarts remaining from that squad, only defensive tackle Abry Jones, linebacker Myles Jack and defensive end Yannick Ngakoue remain. We had a lot of distractions going into the last year and then certain players with the injuries and certain players wanting to get out of there, it was just a lot going on, Bouye said. Bouye mentioned that Coughlin as one of the reasons that players wanted to leave the Jaguars.

Jaguars announce signings of free agents Dennard, Gunter, Schobert

The Jaguars officially announced the signings of linebacker Joe Schobert, defensive tackle Rodney Gunter and cornerback Darqueze Dennard, two days after the deals were agreed to. NFL teams had been told that they had to wait until physicals were finalized before they could announce signings were official. That will push Myles Jack from middle to outside linebacker. "This gives us the ability to move Myles Jack to outside linebacker, which I feel is a more natural position for him. “We feel really good about his skill level to play outside,” Marrone said.

AP source: Jaguars revamp D with LB Schobert, CB Dennard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars opened free agency Tuesday by addressing two huge needs on defense. They agreed to terms with linebacker Joe Schobert and cornerback Darqueze Dennard, giving the unit a proven starter and another potential one. Schobert spent the past four years in Cleveland, where he led the team in tackles twice and made a Pro Bowl. A person familiar with the transactions said Schobert will sign a five-year contract worth $53.75 million and includes $22.5 million guaranteed. Jacksonville's defense was at its best in 2017 with Posluszny, Smith and Jack roaming the middle of the field.

What we've learned about the Jaguars and what comes next

Here are 10 things that Ive learned about the Jaguars through the first nine weeks of the season. If there is one position group that needed a major emergence this season, it was the wide receivers. Will the Jaguars play two regular season home games in London next season. Conveniently, the Jaguars will play four games against those five teams in the final seven weeks of the season. In other words, the Jaguars can play a big role in determining their playoff chances.

Jaguars LB Myle Jack nominated for Salute to Service award

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack was nominated for the Salute to Service award by the team on Monday. Jack, the fourth-year linebacker from UCLA and the weekly guest of the Mark Brunell Show on CW17, was nominated by the Jaguars "for his support of service members and the pride he takes in honoring the military." Jack was involved in the Stars & Strikes bowling event last year where 200 military members and their families took part in a night of bowling. Last offseason, Jack visited several military units during a USO tour in South Korea. Each NFL team nominates a person within the organization not necessarily a player who honors and supports the military community.

Jaguars leadership evolving as season wears on

Jaguars nickel back, D. J. Hayden, left, and safety Ronnie Harrison, middle, have both become more visible leaders on the Jaguars defense as the season has progressed. For the Jaguars, it's been a question created by the departures of numerous leaders. In their place, the Jaguars' leadership has evolved. On offense, Gardner Minshew has had to take up part of the mantle of leadership with Foles on the mend. The outspoken cornerback was the driving force behind the Jaguars' trash-talking defense in 2017.

Jaguars & Myles Jack help JEA customers with bill

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Star linebacker Myles Jack and the Jacksonville Jaguars are lending a helping hand to residents in the city, paying to keep the lights on and water running for 31 JEA customers. According to JEA, the one-time donation helped pay the utility bills for some of the utility's elderly customers who were unable to pay their bills. A note was sent to the JEA customers and signed by Jack. The Jaguars matched his contribution, doubling the number of homes and families they could help. I want to do my part to support other members of the Jacksonville community.

Myles Jack after game ejection: 'I've got to do better'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Addressing as Cole Pepper put it, "the elephant in the room," Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack took a moment Tuesday during the Mark Brunell Show to apologize for his behavior on the field last Sunday. "I definitely put myself before the team, so, I've got to do better," Jack said. "Being a captain, being a leader on this team, I've just got to keep my head to being an example, so, it won't happen again." It took awhile, but Jack, who was visibly upset, was escorted off the field by Jaguars coaches. During the Mark Brunell Show, former Jaguars quarterback Mark Brunell addressed what happened during the game.

Four takeaways: Jaguars show that discipline still lacking

(George Varkanis, News4Jax)JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jaguars opened the 2019 season with one of the worst quarters of football imaginable. Preseason matters: Especially early in the game, the Jaguars looked like a team adjusting to the speed and intensity of the regular season opener. By the time the Jaguars got their first score, the Chiefs had already taken control. It landed in the waiting arms of DJ Chark who made an over-the-shoulder grab for the Jaguars first touchdown of the year. Dealing with adversity: I pointed this out as one of the big keys to the Jaguars' season.

Cam Robinson likely out for Jaguars opener with knee injury

Getty ImagesJACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jaguars will likely be without two big pieces of their offensive line in Sunday's season opener against the Chiefs. Coach Doug Marrone said that left tackle Cam Robinson suffered a knee injury in Thursday's practice and is listed as doubtful to play. Robinson's backup, free agent signee Cedric Ogbuehi, is battling a hamstring injury and is listed as out on the injury report. That leaves second-year player Will Richardson as the likely starter at left tackle. "On the left side, for instance, Cam, he's left-handed, he feels a lot more comfortable throwing his left outside hand.

Jaguars claim former Seahawks LB Austin Calitro off waivers

Getty ImagesJACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Five days before kicking off the 2019 season, the Jaguars have claimed linebacker Austin Calitro off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks. To make room for Calitro, the Jaguars are waiving undrafted rookie Joe Giles-Harris, who initially made the final 53 after the Jaguars cut the roster Saturday. Expect Calitro, who made five starts at multiple spots last year, to compete to start at will LB. He signed with the New York Jets out of Villanova and spent his rookie season in 2017 on practice squads with the Cleveland Browns and Seahawks. The only linebacker with significant starting experience is Myles Jack, who signed a four-year contract extension with the Jaguars this week.

Jaguars wrap up joint practice with the Ravens

BALTIMORE, Maryland - The Jaguars finished their joint practices with the Ravens on Tuesday afternoon. "This is like practice, so Im looking more for individuals getting better rather than the overall going out there. Notes The Ravens wide receivers be the Jaguars DBs easily in 1 on 1s. Marrone said that the Jaguars didn't know if Foles, the franchise's most expensive free-agent signing, would play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Ravens. Myles Jack made some noticeable plays that got him some praise from Wash. Receivers coach Keenan McCardell said that he was pleased with how the wide receivers performed against a talented Ravens secondary.
