Rare leopard captured in northern Iraq
An endangered leopard captured in Iraq's mountainous north had its hind leg amputated following a trap-inflicted wound. The Persian leopard, taken in a day earlier in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region near the border with Turkey, had injured two people, said Colonel Jamal Saado, head of the environmental protection police in Dohuk province.

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. โ The Glynn County Water Rescue Team saved a dog Tuesday morning from the ocean near Massengale Park. Glynn County Fire Rescue said the pup, named Brooks, decided to chase a few pelicans. Unfortunately, those pelicans were half a mile off shore. Members from the water rescue team were able to locate Brooks in St. Simonโs shipping channel and bring him safely back to shore. Brooks and his owner are both safe and appreciative!
Boater missing, vessel capsizes after striking Buckman Bridge
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a capsized boat late Wednesday afternoon near the Buckman Bridge, and the operator of that boat has not been located. Fire and Rescue said the vessel struck one of the pilings under the Buckman and capsized north of the bridge. As of 7:15 p.m., the boater had not been located, according to Eric Prosswimmer, spokesperson for JFRD. Crews were towing the boat to an area near NAS Jacksonville. The investigation was being turned over to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla- โ An adult, a child, and their family pets are all OK after a fire started at their home early Monday morning. The fire happened a home in Murray Hill near I-10 and McDuff Avenue around 3:30 a.m. It appears the adult and child were able to quickly get out of the home, but left without their three dogs. โ MyJFRD (@JFRDJAX) August 24, 2020Firefighters were able to save the dogs and none were injured. The fire was put out quickly so the home will not be a total loss, but the Red Cross is assisting the family.
Georgia investigator saves injured hawk struck by vehicle
GLYNN COUNTY, Fla. โ A Glynn County Police Department investigator -- who happens to be a licensed falconer -- rescued a hawk on Tuesday after it was struck by a vehicle. The police department said the red-tailed hawk was eating a meal when it was injured. Luckily for the large bird, investigator Lowreyโs โunique talentsโ were put to use and he handled the hawk safely and transported it to a rehabilitation center so it can recover, the department said. The Facebook post did not include the investigatorโs first name. Investigator Lowrey is also attached to GCPDโs Special Response Team.
