Fifteen batters up. Fifteen batters down. University Christian junior Sophia Kardatzke dominated Foundation Academy in the Class 2A softball state semifinals, firing a perfect game to lead an 11-0 romp at Legends Way Ballfield in Clermont.

Late comeback leads to heartbreak for University Christian in Class 1M state semifinal
A UC desperation pass was picked off at the goal line with no time left, sending the Marauders (12-1) into the state championship game with a 34-29 victory over the Christians (11-2). So, Central Catholic will meet Chaminade-Madonna for the title, while UC’s season is finished.

Girls basketball regional finals: Four area teams eye spot in state semifinals
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Four area girls basketball teams have state semifinal berths in sight. Three area teams play at home (Bishop Kenny, Oakleaf and St. Augustine). Region 1-5AAdFort Walton Beach (17-3) at St. Augustine (25-1): The Yellow Jackets just keep right on winning. Another victory would send St. Augustine to the state semifinals for the first time since a trip in 2001. A win would send St. Augustine to the final four where it would face Orlando Jones or Palm Bay on Feb. 25.
Girls basketball playoffs: Four area teams move on to 3rd round

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Four area girls basketball teams are bound for the third round of the state playoffs. Bishop Kenny, Oakleaf, St. Augustine and University Christian all advanced to Friday’s third round with victories on Tuesday night. St. Augustine clipped Ponte Vedra for the second time this month with a 43-35 win in 1-5A. And Bishop Kenny pulled off the Northwest sweep with a grind-it-out, 44-39 win over Ribault.

Girls high school basketball playoffs: Six games headline second-round slate
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tuesday night is the second round of the girls high school basketball state playoffs. St. Augustine beat Ponte Vedra 47-29 in the regular season, and then edged the Sharks 49-45 in the district championship. The Trojans won 51-50 in OT this season, 44-38 last season, 54-50 in 2019 and 52-39 in 2018. That sets up a rematch of the district championship game, won 46-35 by the Christians. C/F Jaidy Mejia (11.2 ppg) and G Laura Gonzalez (10.2 ppg) lead NFEI.

University Christian comes up short in Class 2A state championship game
The drive for a 10th state championship will have to wait. University Christian led at halftime but couldn’t hold off Hialeah Champagnat after that in a 41-27 loss in the Class 2A state championship game at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Wednesday afternoon. The loss denied UC a shot to move into double figures in state championship trophies and gave Champagnat (11-2) consecutive state championships. The Christians (8-5) went down 14-0 quick but recovered in a hurry with touchdown runs by Joseph Carter and Orel Gray. Donovan Jones ripped off a 46-yard touchdown following a UC fumble and Benson Prosper had his third touchdown catch of the game three minutes later.
