Firefighters are closely monitoring a fire at a paper recycling plant near Riverside in downtown Jacksonville that sent a large plume of smoke into the air Monday afternoon.

A man riding a minibike down Beaver Street on Wednesday morning died after he collided with a Ford F-150 service truck, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Part of Union Street will be closed for several days after a three-alarm fire that started Saturday at an abandoned commercial building in downtown Jacksonville, authorities said. Jacksonville police also taped off Union Street between Laura and Main streets. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Sunday that due to the fire, Union Street at Main Street will remain closed for several days, creating traffic delays for those coming into downtown on eastbound Union Street. The current detour diverts eastbound Union Street traffic to southbound Laura Street. Due to yesterday's structure fire, Union St. will remain closed for several days.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – At least one person was injured in a crash Sunday afternoon on Beaver Street in the Whitehouse area, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are looking for two people in a dark-colored sedan after multiple shots were fired into another car Friday afternoon, killing a man in his 40s. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives said the shooting happened on Logan Street, north Beaver Street, about 2:55 p.m. The victim drove about two blocks before crashing into a vacant lot at the corner of Acorn and West Union streets, next to Eugene Butler Middle School. The victim was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died. Investigators said they were looking at surveillance video hoping to identify the gunmen’s vehicle.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A mother said she's frustrated that there are no suspects in the hit-and-run death of her son that happened 10 months ago. "The last 10 months have been a roller coaster ride, and you can't understand unless you lose a child. She said because of that, she thinks it will take someone coming forward to help troopers in order to find the driver who killed her son. Troopers say hit-and-run cases are often difficult to solve because there is little physical evidence left at the scene. Out of the 50 hit-and-run cases in Jacksonville from 2014 to 2018, only 16 have been solved.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - One person was seriously injured in an industrial accident Friday morning at the C&S Wholesale Grocers distribution center near Baldwin, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. Firefighters called just after 7 a.m. to the site off Beaver Street which has long been known as the Winn-Dixie warehouse found someone trapped under a large load and needed to be rescued. They managed to pull the individual out and transported him to the hospital and his condition was not reported.
