Holmes and Nitro are wearing some new body armor while on the job in Flagler County. The Sheriff's Deputy K-9s received a donation from a non-profit organization, Vested Interest in K-9s, Inc. Both K-9s were given vests embroidered with the sentiment "Born to Love-Trained to Serve-Loyal Always."

Shari Duval, who founded K9s for Warriors in 2011, passed away this week after a battle with cancer. K9s for Warriors uses donations to help warriors train with their service dogs and learn to re-enter civilian life. K9s for Warriors stays on mission through the pandemic
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. โ When veterans come home from deployment, transitioning back into civilian life can be a daunting task. The program has been able to continue its work through the pandemic, training 90 dogs and pairing them with veterans. You canโt Zoom train a warrior,โ said K9s for Warriors CEO Rory Diamond who is also a member of the Jacksonville City Council. K9s for Warriors is 100% free to veterans and while the Florida Legislature approved $600,000 for the program this year, private donations provide most of the funding. K9s for Warriors has a 10-year history of helping veterans and currently operates in 47 states.
K9s United in Jacksonville offering free training for K-9 officers
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Four-legged crime fighters are among the frontline heroes in the Jacksonville community and around the nation, serving and protecting every day. K9s United -- a local nonprofit -- is giving back, offering free training for K-9 officers. Jacksonville police officer Matt Herrera was working with a new K-9 after his partner, Fang, was killed in 2018 during a suspect pursuit. Now, he has a knew K-9 partner named Ghost, and heโs developing another bond. Fang gave me that opportunity to go home to my family and my children that night.โOne young officer -- the only female K-9 officer in her department -- traveled some 450 miles for the free opportunity.

K9s For Warriors brings doggies to the windows for seniors in Nocatee
Nobody knows that better than the folks at K9 For Warriors, an organization dedicated to training shelter dogs to become service animals for veterans. They were able to share some puppy love with the residents through window visits, while the residents remained in the safety of their own rooms. โItโs a lot of joy, just to know how much the elderly mean to people,โ said an emotional Deidre Strag, a K9s For Warriors trainer. โHeโs hope, heโs love, heโs understanding.โMiranda said the visit was meaningful for the residents. Protective vest donated to Flagler County K-9
FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. Flagler County Sheriffs Office K-9 Axle received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a donation from nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc. We appreciate Vested Interest in K9s for providing this lifesaving vest for K-9 Axle, Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in a news released Wednesday. Staly said the vest will not only protect Axle but will give peace of mind to his handler, Deputy Aaron Beausoleil. The safety of our K-9 officers is extremely important and we are grateful for this generous donation, the sheriff said. The mission of Vested Interest in K9s is to provide protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.
K9s for Warriors hopes expansion will shorten wait time for veterans
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - K9s for Warriors is expanding with the hope of shortening the time veterans spend on its waitlist. The K9s for Warriors' headquarters in Nocatee is only a few miles away. Brett Simon, president and co-founder of K9s for Warriors, told News4Jax on Thursday that the expansion will help save lives of veterans. With the upcoming expansion, the organization will be able to serve even more veterans suffering with PTSD, traumatic brain injury or military sexual trauma. Once complete, the new campus will add about 60 jobs in St. Johns County.
