For the first time ever, Fernandina Beach, West Nassau and Yulee are unbeaten at this point of the regular season. Coleman, the Warriors senior shooting guard, was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 4A player of the year on Thursday afternoon. On the girls side this year, Bishop Kenny’s Jasmyne Roberts, a Nassau County native, won the Class 4A player of the year honor and finished as runner-up for Miss Basketball. Coleman led West Nassau to its best season in program history, guiding the Warriors to the Class 4A state semifinals. Santa Fe beat West Nassau in a 64-63 classic, hitting a shot off the glass as time was running out.

The storybook season for West Nassau and electric guard Deebo Coleman is over. Coleman passed Nease’s Chet Stachitas (2,505) on the career scoring list in the regional final. Coleman’s record-setting career wrapped up with a stellar performance. West Nassau ripped off a 26-6 run over parts of the second and third quarters, with Coleman scoring 11 of those and Keenan Johnson dumping in six during that stretch. West Nassau led by eight with 3:37 to play before the Raiders chipped their way back.

Pence spoke to military spouses at NAS Jacksonville to launch the Transition Employment Assistance for Military Spouses (TEAMS) Program. It is designed to help military spouses advance their careers through training, workshops, and networking tailored to their unique circumstances. St. Johns County will hold its first regular season contests on Sept. 11, while Flagler County will permit its athletes to start practice not games on Sept. 5. The announcements for area counties continue to trickle in following the Florida High School Athletic Associations vote on Aug. 14 to allow a regular season start date of Sept. 4. I recognize the importance of athletics to many of our students and our community, Flagler Schools Superintendent Cathy Mittelstadt said in a release. ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - K9s for Warriors is expanding with the hope of shortening the time veterans spend on its waitlist. The K9s for Warriors' headquarters in Nocatee is only a few miles away. Brett Simon, president and co-founder of K9s for Warriors, told News4Jax on Thursday that the expansion will help save lives of veterans. With the upcoming expansion, the organization will be able to serve even more veterans suffering with PTSD, traumatic brain injury or military sexual trauma. Once complete, the new campus will add about 60 jobs in St. Johns County.
