The annual golf tournament had to cancel its traditional ceremony and concert due to public health concerns. News4Jax and The Players are teaming up for a fundraiser to help local groups that support our military, including the Wounded Warrior Project and The Fire Watch, a nonprofit that aims to identify and help veterans and service members in crisis. The mission is simple: raise money for nonprofit groups such as the Wounded Warrior Project and The Fire Watch, to end veteran suicide and give veterans the resources they need. Then let us know how you plan to make a difference in our community, whether it’s through Match4Military or another way.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Wounded warriors from around the area pushed themselves to the limit and cycled 18-miles on the roads of Jacksonville on Friday. This year’s Soldier Ride began and ended from the Wounded Warrior Project’s headquarters on A.C. Skinner Parkway. Since the beginning of the global pandemic, wounded warriors have been tireless in their efforts to maintain momentum in their recovery despite the disruptions in their daily routines. As the nation slowly opens back up, so too is the Wounded Warrior Project programing and Friday’s event allows recovering veterans to get outside and get active while still maintaining social distance. Soldier Ride uses adaptive cycling technology to help wounded veterans redefine their limitations and become well-adjusted in mind and body.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Having difficulty just getting around the house for daily tasks is a reality of life for many wounded veterans, like Jarrod Addison. The Jacksonville native, who served in the Army, sometimes needs to use a wheelchair when pain from his injuries becomes unbearable. But his apartment was filled with carpeted floors, making it almost impossible to easily use his wheelchair inside. But thanks to money granted to Homes For Our Troops by Wounded Warrior Project, Jarrod has a new family home that has been adapted to his needs. Jarrod's new home will allow him to use his wheelchair when needed, allowing him to be more mobile.

VIEW: 2019 Annual Warrior Survey Report of FindingsOverall, half of the 35,000 veterans registered with the organization who participated in the survey reported their health as being excellent, very good or good. The survey found the most common five health issues reported by veterans were:Sleep problems (87.5%)Post-traumatic stress disorder (82.8%)Anxiety (80.7%)Back, neck or shoulder problems (76.8%)Depression (76.5%)According to the survey, maintaining a healthy weight was also a common problem for veterans. While the survey identified areas of need among post-9/11 wounded veterans, according to WWP, it also showed successes in other areas. With the help of organizations such as WWP, veterans can work toward having healthier lives.
