After โsoft launchโ Friday, second vaccine doses start Monday at 2 city-run sites
The two sites stopped giving first doses of the vaccine one week ago after the cityโs supply ran out. The city held onto enough supply to give those who received their first shot a second dose at the same location, starting Monday. AdโThese are for the city sites only and only available to those who received their first dose at one of these locations,โ Curry said. Patients will get a reminder phone call the day before their second dose is due. The city said the second doses will be administered until Feb. 12.

According to Curry, taxpayers should feel comfortable with the city of Jacksonville investing $233 million in direct spending for the Lot J project because the city has already adequately invested in Jacksonvilleโs communities. The year before I got into office the city of Jacksonville invested $20 million in neighborhoods. So my budgets have represented investments in neighborhoods, weโve invested in neighborhoods before bringing a downtown project like this,โ Curry said. It sealed City's third Women's FA Cup triumph in four seasons โ a winning streak that began with Lloyd netting in the 2017 victory over Birmingham. Mewis wasn't the first American to score in a pandemic-delayed FA Cup final at Wembley in 2020.
Trash company with history of complaints asks city for second chance
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A trash company responsible for thousands of complaints of missed trash collection is asking the City of Jacksonville to reconsider its plan to void the waste haulers contract. In October, the city sent Republic Services of Florida a letter saying the company was failing to comply with the standards of service laid out in their contract. Republic Services wrote the letter mischaracterizes the ongoing issues and asked the city to reconsider. The News4Jax I-TEAM has interviewed multiple people who say they are routinely missed by Republic Services waste collectors, including Arlington mother Karli Hester. The company also addressed the thousands of dollars in damage to garbage cans across the city of Jacksonville.
More repair delays 5 years after Liberty Street collapse
Itโs been almost five years since a portion of Liberty Street near the old courthouse collapsed into the St. Johns River. A City report says planned repairs wonโt be done until April 2020. On Feb. 1, 2015, the second collapse of Liberty Street occurred. Instead of fixing that portion of Liberty Street, it has been demolished along with the parking that was adjacent to the Old Duval County courthouse. Also since the collapse, the old courthouse and City Hall have been leveled.
City gets ready to shut down up to 160 adult arcades
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - It looks like game over for adult arcades in Jacksonville. The city is getting ready to shut down all of them down following Tuesday night's vote by City Council. "The City Council members who left City Hall last night in their fancy cars and went to their gated community homes. Two council members will meet next week to discuss how to help workers who will be displaced after the adult arcades close. So far no court date has been set.
Mayor Curry: Stay prepared, no local watches or warnings now
"There are no watches or warnings in effect (for our area) now," Curry said. The mayor and other city officials and agency leaders will have a live update at 5 p.m. Sunday. "We have been through this a number of times in the state of Florida and now in Jacksonville," Curry said Friday. Curry urged recreational boaters not to venture out this weekend and beachgoers to stay out of the water. Mayor Lenny Curry activated the emergency operations center on Aug. 28 to monitor the storm and coordinate storm preparations.
Florida Power & Light CEO considering bid to purchase JEA
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - City leaders might be tight-lipped about privatizing JEA, but already one potential suitor has emerged. Florida Power & Light, the states largest utility company, is not ruling out a bid to buy the publicly-owned utility, FPL President and CEO Eric Silagy told the Jacksonville Daily Record on Friday. Streets around Notre Dame Cathedral to be decontaminated for lead
(CNN) - City officials in Paris shut down the streets surrounding the Notre Dame Cathedral on Tuesday to begin decontaminating the area for high levels of lead. The Notre Dame Cathedral caught fire on April 15, destroying the structure's spires and parts of the roof. "Our priority is to prevent any risk to employees working on the site," Paris prefect Michel Cabot said. "With new safety protocols and the delivery of two new decontamination units, the quality of lead decontamination of workers, machinery and equipment will be optimized. However, the streets surrounding the cathedral will take more time.
Report: No special favors given to city contractor
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - City inspectors have concluded there were no special favors given to a city contractor by a public works employee that could have led to a multimillion-dollar contract. A complaint was filed with the city in 2015 alleging special favors were given to a company, Jax Utilities Management, which was doing work for the public works department. The complaint said the contract process was overseen by public works employee William Lawrence, who has ties to company employees, and alleges that he gave them special consideration. The inspector general also was not able to prove the accusation related to gifts to Lawrence. The mayors office agreed with the reports findings and said employees involved in the contract process should get more training related to the process.
