Southeastern Grocers is preparing to administer 8,100 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine throughout Florida, the supermarket company announced Thursday. Beginning Feb. 11, Southeastern Grocers will start giving COVID-19 shots to eligible recipients at select Winn-Dixie, Harveys Supermarket and Fresco y Más locations. The shots will be for health care workers, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, and people age 65 and older while supplies last. Those with health insurance must provide their health insurance card during their scheduled appointment, and those without insurance will need to present a valid driver’s license or social security card. Southeastern Grocers said that in the coming months, it will also provide additional COVID-19 shots at pharmacy locations and will coordinate future drive-thru clinics to administer vaccinations in additional underserved communities as availability expands.

Southeastern Grocers said in an updated filing last week with the Securities and Exchange Commission it wanted to sell 8.9 million shares at $14 to $16. They were issued shares in exchange for debt when Southeastern Grocers completed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in 2018. Southeastern Grocers expects to operate 423 supermarkets under the Winn-Dixie, Harveys and Fresco y Mas brands after completing the sale of more than 100 stores, including stores operated under the Bi-Lo banner.

NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. – Three hundred military families in need will be getting a little extra help for the holiday’s thanks to Winn-Dixie, the Greater Jacksonville USO and current and former Jaguars players. Winn-Dixie, Jaguars' defensive end Lerentee McCray and former Jaguar Drayton Florence donated 300 turkeys for a drive-thru food distribution Tuesday night in Neptune Beach. For Tuesday’s event at the Neptune Beach Winn-Dixie in Penman Plaza, the USO invited 300 active-duty and veteran families to receive the turkeys and other holiday meal essentials. The event was by invitation only and was not open to the public. Because of the ongoing pandemic, participants were encouraged to wear protective equipment during the drive-thru event.

Lucky’s, which is reorganizing under Chapter 11 bankruptcy laws, initially intended to keep the Melbourne store open. Previously, Aldi agreed to take over six Lucky’s stores, while Publix Super Markets Inc. agreed to take over leases at five properties including the Lucky’s store in Neptune Beach.
