A student was flown by air ambulance to Jacksonville after being stabbed during an altercation with another student Monday in the courtyard of Brunswick High School, according to Glynn County schools.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – There’s controversy over the student dress code at a St. Johns County high school. The school district confirmed that 31 girls received dress code violations on Friday. “I was walked downstairs got it taken which was my bra and was told I have detention,” the student told News4Jax. Freshman Riley O’Keefe, who started the online petition, said many of the girls flagged over dress code violations on Friday were wearing zip-up jackets with tank tops underneath. “I want administrators to know this is not OK.”As of 2 p.m. on Monday, seven girls and five boys were cited for dress code violations.

Flagler County deputies on Friday arrested a student at Bunnell Elementary School being told the juvenile threatened to shoot a teacher and was researching to how to find a gun and ammunition according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were told the juvenile sang an inappropriate song last Wednesday about guns and shooting people while in class. According to the Sheriff’s Office, after his teacher told the student that this behavior was not acceptable and asked him to stop, the student began searching guns on the internet. The following day, the teacher said the student pointed his iPad at her and said, “I am going to shoot you up!” while making gun noises. The teacher told deputies that these incidents made put her in fear for her life.

Duval families will be able to tour schools from home today and speak with school leaders. The district’s annual School Choice Expo will be virtual on Saturday, January 9. Duval County Public Schools is a choice district, which means students can attend schools outside their attendance area zones through the school choice application process. This is in the “My Show Planner” tab, where you’ll see your scheduled events to see live school presentations, organize you schedule, and make appointments to talk with school leaders. For those who want to take advantage of school choice, the application window runs thru February 28.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A student at Ribault High School was hospitalized Friday afternoon after “a discharge of a firearm” at the school and another student who was found with a gun was arrested, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Ribault’s principal, Gregory Bostic, sent parents a message that the student was shot in the arm. Officers at Fletcher High School, which Ribault is playing in a football game Friday night, were aware of the incident and were on high alert. Bostic said this incident does not represent the students of Ribault High School. But, I know what happened today does not represent our students here at John Ribault High School," he said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A large part of Duval County Public Schools strategy to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 when the district reopens school buildings this fall involves strict adherence to social distancing guidelines. The first couple of weeks, transportation is going to be a challenge, Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene said to the School Board in Tuesdays reopening workshop. According to the district, approximately 49,000 Duval County students utilize the bus system to get to and from school, making social distancing during normal bus routes virtually impossible. Face coverings will be required for students on school buses where social distancing is not possible, the districts website said in a Tuesday reopening update. Changes to transportation routes are routinely published by the district on the page linked here.

Despite being homeless and having spent time living in shelters with his mother, Folsom served as class president his freshman through senior year, and is is set to graduate at the top of his class as valedictorian. “It’s been a rocky road, a lot of hardships," Folsom said. STARKE, Fla. – A driver was arrested after a Bradford Middle School student was struck by a car while exiting her school bus Tuesday in Starke. According to the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office, the student was getting off the bus on W. Brownlee Street just after 3 p.m. when a driver passed two cars in front of him in an attempt to get around the bus. Video of the incident showed the bus had stopped and had all lights and signs engaged, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as Carl James Jr.James was arrested, accused of reckless driving and booked into the Bradford County Jail. The student had minor injuries and was transported to Shands of Starke for further evaluation.
