Jacksonville woman beats coronavirus, celebrates 100th birthday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Edna Johnson, known affectionately by her loved ones as Grandma Edna, celebrated 100 years of life Monday. Grandma Edna was born in Georgia on Feb. 1, 1921. She moved to Florida and has been a resident of Jacksonville for more than 60 years. “We are so thankful to have her here to celebrate her 100th birthday!”Grandma Edna has three children, two of which are still living. The family bought a cut-out of Grandma Edna, balloons and a tiara to celebrate.
Betty White preps for 99th Birthday, says she is ‘blessed with good health’
American actress and comedian Betty White will be turning 99 on Sunday! The “Golden Girls” actress has been quarantining at home during the pandemic, while working on the re-release of her 1970s show “The Pet Set,” according to reports. In an interview, White talked about her health and happiness. “I am blessed with good health,” she told People, “so turning 99 is no different than turning 98.”She told People it is a sense of humor that keeps her going. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Need a smile? The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Jacksonville Fire And Rescue Department surprised a local 3-year-old for his birthday on Sunday. First responders surprised little David with a car parade, presents and more. Fire stations 30, 50 and 29 flashed their lights and waved to David as they passed. Happy Birthday David!
Jacksonville woman celebrates 104 years of life on Wednesday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – News4Jax is wishing a special young lady a happy birthday on Wednesday! Delta Cave, who lives on the southside of Jacksonville, turned 104 on Dec. 9. “Mother” Delta Cave enjoys reading the Bible and spending time with family and friends. Her family told News4Jax that she attends church faithfully. She is the oldest living member of her family and the oldest student affiliated with the Douglas Anderson Alumni Association.

Thanks to you, Georgia woman gets 600+ cards on 70th birthday
The 70-year-old wanted cards — 70 of them, to be exact. Friends and followers of News4Jax stepped up to the plate and delivered when Owens received 600 cards and messages from all over the country on Oct. 18. "From my heart to yours, thank you for the gracious cards and gift that were sent to me from all over the United States. I’ve received cards from as far as New York, Arizona, Oklahoma, Connecticut, Alabama, Mississippi, The Carolinas, Missouri, Montana, Florida and many other places. One of her highlighted memories is when she cooked for the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, at Cabin Bluff in Camden County.
Clay County WWII veteran, Purple Heart recipient turns 101
CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – News4Jax would like to wish one Clay County man a happy 101st birthday on Wednesday! Mr. Winton Carter, also known as Sarge, is a retired Marine, WWII veteran and Purple Heart recipient. News4Jax anchor Joy Purdy ran into Carter, her neighbor, as he was returning home in his pickup truck. Last year, Purdy told his story on Channel 4 in a segment called “Neighbor of valor.” They spoke about his wife, Norma Jean, his memories of WWII and dealing with death. Her son, Arnel Pozin, told News4Jax the family moved here to open up a business together. “She’s just like the Energizer Bunny,” Arnel Pozin said. Jacksonville woman celebrates 109th birthday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Louisa Gunter celebrated 109 years of life on Wednesday! Her family and friends came to her home to help celebrate her birthday. She received love, money, sweet treats and gifts during her celebration. Gunter has nine children, 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. She was the 14th of 15 children born in Levy, Florida but has been living in Baldwin, Florida for more than 80 years.
For her 75th birthday, Dolly Parton wants to be on the cover of Playboy
(CNN) – Dolly Parton turned 74 this year. And she's not letting her age stop her from planning her Playboy return. Parton graced the magazine’s cover in 1978 when she was 32. "I don't plan to retire. I just turned 74 and I plan to be on the cover of Playboy magazine again," Parton told 60 Minutes Australia over the weekend.
Local woman turns 100 years young on Thursday

Rosalind Thomas, her daughter, shared stories about her life with News4Jax Social Media Producer Carianne Luter. She attended local public schools, graduating from Stanton Senior High School, class of 1937. Catherine went on to become a renowned and respected educator with Duval County Public Schools for 36 years, retiring in 1979. Throughout her life music has remained a constant, she loves to sing and dance (move with the music).
