News4JAGs predictions: Jaguars will put Titans out of their misery, win the AFC South on Sunday
Jaguars season is back and our News4JAX sports staff is back with its predictions as well. Each week, weโll unveil our predictions for the weekโs game. Jacksonville (9-7) visits Tennessee (5-11) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the regular season finale. A win wraps up the AFC South. A loss could mean that they miss the playoffs.

Four takeaways: Jaguars fix Week 1 issues and show what theyโre capable of
The Jaguars extended the Colts losing streak in Jacksonville to nine years with a 24-0 victory Sunday in the home opener. The Jaguars now find themselves in first place in the AFC South for the first time since the start of the 2020 season. Here are my four biggest takeaways from the game:
Mark Brunell: Where was the effort against the Titans?
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ I donโt think anyone expected the Jaguars to win on Sunday against the Titans. I know Doug Marrone didnโt announce his decision after the game, but I canโt imagine going back to Glennon at this point. In all likelihood, itโs going to be Minshew starting these next three games and the teams seeing what he can do. Youโre not going to see any of those players, Glennon, Jake Luton or Minshew, here long term. The Jaguars have three games left to change that direction, where itโs not the worst season weโve ever had.
Jaguars fans want changes after miserable 1-7 start
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Fans are calling for changes after the Jaguars recorded their seventh straight loss in Sundayโs tilt with the AFC South rival Houston Texans. At 1-7, Jacksonville owns the second worst record in the NFL this season. On Monday, News4Jax spoke with some die-hard Jaguars fans who say they still love the team, but they want to see their faith rewarded with more wins. News4Jax Jaguars Analyst and former quarterback Mark Brunell, who led the team to the franchiseโs first playoff appearances in 1996 and 1999, said he understands why fans are frustrated. As recently as 2017, the Jaguars won their first AFC South title before falling to the New England Patriots in the conference title game.
Could Texans-Jaguars be considered an AFC South pillow fight?
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jacksonville Jaguars have been here before. The Jaguars (1-6) are last in the AFC South, the same spot they occupied in each of the last two seasons and three times in the last four years. The Texans havenโt brought up the rear in the South since 2013. One of them will double their win total and escape the AFC South cellar when they meet Sunday. โMan, they just need to forfeit the game,โ Jaguars defensive end Josh Allen quipped.
RECAP: Will the Jaguars win this week? Justin Barney answers that and more of your questions
Those are just a few of the questions News4Jax Sports Editor Justin Barney fielded during Tuesdayโs Ask Me Anything. A lot of youth on this yearโs Jaguars team and I think that inexperience is going to continue to show. I think a 5- or 6-win season is in the cards in 2020 for the Jaguars. Justin: I think itโs too early to say heโs overmatched or that heโs a franchise QB. Justin: Iโll take the Jaguars this week and hope that the coaching staff has corrected that pitiful effort against the Dolphins.
Jaguarsโ 1st road game in 2020 will be played in front of no fans
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jaguarsโ first road trip to the season, a visit to AFC South rival Tennessee, will be played with no fans in the stands. "Across the United States, there's a wide range of approaches to in-person attendance for professional sports based on a wide range of public health policies and the prevalence of the coronavirus in those locations," Cooper said. The Jaguars have already announced plans to reduce stadium capacity to 25% at home games in 2020 due to the coronavirus. The Jaguars split with the Titans last season, winning 20-7 at home on Thursday night football and getting routed 42-20 at Tennessee. Jacksonville is 9-16 all-time on the road against the Titans, with a 2-0 mark against the former Houston Oilers factored in.
MONDAY HUDDLE: Did Jaguars wave white flag on 2019 with Jalen Ramsey deal?
State of Jaguars after Ramsey tradeThe Jaguars are 1-0 in the post-Jalen Ramsey era following a 27-17 win at Cincinnati, one of two winless teams in the NFL. Jacksonville improved to 3-4 and is still somewhat hanging around the AFC South race with the season almost halfway done. But the Jaguars felt ultimately being rid of Ramsey and collecting the picks was best, even if the perception is that 2019 seems like more of a rebuilding season now. Progress for Florida State stallingThe Florida State program seems to still be stuck in mud in Willie Taggart's second year as head coach. Wellington (2-7) is off this week, but Abel will return to coach for the team's Nov. 1 game against Seminole Ridge.
Mark Brunell: Don't be surprised anymore about Gardner Minshew
And with about two minutes left in the fourth quarter, I thought it would be even more daunting to come back. The one thing weve been able to count on week to week has been the play of our sixth-round pick Gardner Minshew II. It sounds like the play of a quarterback whos been playing in the NFL for a number of years. But an injury changed all of that and Minshew has responded to that challenge better than anyone could have expected. But I do know the guy leading them is going to compete and do everything he can to win football games.
