And we’re hosting a toy drive at Channel 4 on Dec. 10, so if you stop by that day, we’ll make sure your donated toys get delivered. That toy drive will run from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.It’s worth mentioning that the drop-off process will be a little different this year.

How to safely stow your generator for next year’s (hopefully less crazy) hurricane season

At the beginning of the season, with the help of our local Ace Hardware stores, we showed you how to get your portable generator ready for action. With a little over a month to go, hopes are high that the next time you move your portable generator it will be to prepare it for winter. The basics here are preparing the fuel for storage or removing the fuel from your generator. Some can protect the fuel for up to 24 months depending on how and where your portable generator is stored. Stop by your local Ace Hardware stores for more tips on protecting your portable generator and storage questions.

Batteries for your hurricane preparedness kit

A stockpile of batteries are a must have in your hurricane preparedness kit and ACE Hardware has many types to keep you powered up. How long will the batteries last in your flashlight? Estimates are not very precise but AA batteries typically last 2-3 times longer than AAA. The batteries that come with your flashlight typically dont last as long as an Alkaline or NiMH battery. Rechargeable batteries are not best since power may be out for days after a storm blows through.

There are many supplies on the hurricane preparedness checklist, most of which can be purchased at Ace Hardware. To make it easy for you to get in and out quickly, a checklist of the important items are available at all ACE Hardware stores. Memorial Day is right around the corner and when pulling out those American Flags to hang outside, you may have some that are a bit worn and torn. Thankfully local Ace Hardware stores will have a box inside that will allow you to properly dispose of the flag. In honor of Memorial Day all Ace Hardware stores are hosting an American Flag giveaway on March 23rd. For every flag given away one will be donated to the local VFW to put by gravestones on Memorial Day. Last year Ace was able to donate 535,000 flags and they are hoping to beat that number this year.

Ace Hardware CEO says US trade tariffs on Chinese goods are pesky, frustrating but manageable

Ace Hardware CEO John Venhuizen told CNBC on Friday that the ongoing U.S.-China trade war is more of a nuisance than an overwhelming issue. "From our lens, in the short term, they are pesky, they are frustrating, but they are manageable," Venhuizen said when speaking about tariffs on "Squawk on the Street." "Our primary aim remains to insulate our customers from these tariffs," Venhuizen said Friday. The Ace CEO's comments come as Wall Street turned optimistic Friday, after President Donald Trump said the world's two largest economies were nearing a trade deal. Earlier Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that while Beijing wants to make a deal, it isn't afraid to "fight back."

Rust-Oleum has recalled about 1,800 cans of countertop coating because of potentially dangerous levels of lead. The black satin countertop coating was sold at Ace Hardware, other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Homedepot.com and Walmart.com from June 2017 through February 2018 for about $20. Consumers who have applied the recalled countertop coating will receive a repair kit or replacement of the affected surfaces.
