Brush fire scorched 150 acres in Glynn County
GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. โ Investigators are working to determine what caused a brush fire to spark near Golden Isles Parkway and Highway 99 in Glynn County Sunday morning. It grew to 150-acres before the blaze was contained, the Georgia Forestry Commission confirmed. Glynn County Fire Department said the agency was first called around 11:30 am., and more units were called as the fire grew. When you have dry brush like that it burns really fast and it looks spectacular,โ said Captain Bobby Armstrong. The Georgia Forestry commission flew over the fire to track its movement.
Rescue crews locate body of skydiver whose parachute failed
Nick Perdomo with Team Eagle identified his teammate as Yuset Hernandez, 51. 51-year-old Yuset Hernandez died after parachute malfunctioned. The Krawlโn for the Fallen event runs throughout the weekend. A statement on the Krawlโn for the Fallen Facebook page reads:"Today at Krawlโn for the Fallen we suffered a horrible tragedy. Off Road United Foundation is expecting up to 2,500 people for the weekend event, which features off-road trails and obstacles.
Flagler high school students donate life-saving equipment to paramedics
Students from Flagler Palm Coast High Schoolโs โGuard Dogs,โ a community problem-solvers group, donated 200 tourniquets to the countyโs Fire Rescue department. โThese students, in the aftermath of many school incidents, took the initiative to help,โ said Flagler County Interim Fire Rescue Chief Joe King. The tourniquets will help stock Fire Rescue units if there is ever an active assailant event. โWe hope we will never be faced with using the equipment for this purpose,โ King said. โBut we are more prepared now because of the students' efforts to be proactive.โ
Green Cove Springs apartment building fire contained
Green Cove Springs, FL โ Clay County Fire Rescue responded to a 3 story apartment building fire at the 200 block of St. Johns Avenue in Green Cove Springs. At about 5 a.m., crews said the fire was out and confined to the outside decks of the complex. Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire.
Fire extinguished at UFโs Norman Hall
GAINESVILLE, Fla. โ Firefighters with Gainesville Fire Rescue extinguished a fire Monday night at the University of Floridaโs Norman Hall. According to Fire Rescue, because of the size of the building, it took firefighters about 30 minutes due to the heavy smoke before they located the fire. It was in a locked office on the first floor of the three story building. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire will be investigated by the State Fire Marshalโs Office.
Bradford County home destroyed after candle tips over
BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. โ Bradford County Fire Rescue responded to a house fire on Northwest 223rd Street off County Road 200-A south of Lawtey around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. When crews arrived, they were met with heavy fire on the front porch and entrance of the home. Firefighters called in additional crews to help battle the flames, but the home was a total loss. BCFR posted photos of the damage on their Facebook page. Bradford County Fire Rescue posted photos of a home destroyed by a fire after a citronella candle tips over Saturday.
Marion County woman accused of manslaughter claims victim fell onto knife
MICANOPY, Fla. โ The Marion County Sheriffโs Office on Friday arrested Lillian Patterson and charged her with negligent manslaughter. The Sheriffโs Office said Patterson told Fire Rescue that Patterson stumbled out of a bedroom and collapsed on the floor. Patterson first told investigators that Collins fell onto a knife being held by one of the children in the home. During another round of questioning, Patterson claimed both she and a child were holding knives and Collins fell onto one of the knives. The Sheriffโs Office said Patterson admitted she had multiple opportunities to relinquish the knife before and during the โwrestlingโ match.
Man dies after crashing into trees off I-75
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. โ A man died after crashing into multiple trees at the Interstate-75 exit ramp for County Road 236 just after midnight Saturday. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a GMC Sierra was driving northbound on I-75 before taking the exit for County Road 236. Thatโs when his car drove off into the grassy shoulder and hit multiple trees. Alachua County Fire Rescue responded and pronounced 38-year-old Russell Mcdonald dead at the scene. His family has been notified.
