JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Yummy news coming your way: Grumpyโs Restaurant is planning on opening three new locations in 2021. One restaurant will open in St. Johns County, slated to open this Spring, and two restaurants in the Jacksonville area. President and CEO Daniel DeLeon told News4Jax the franchise is expecting to have eight local restaurants open by the end of 2022. WJXT, News4Jax.com launches effort to help local restaurants, frontline workers
WJXT Channel 4, The Local Station and News4Jax.com have launched Food4Frontline, a community-wide effort to help both frontline workers and local restaurants. To do this and also help local restaurants in the process is our way of living out our mission as Jacksonvilleโs only truly local television station in these unprecedented times.โThe Food4Frontline effort will accomplish three things:1. Serve: We will then partner with local restaurants to order meals that will be distributed to those on the frontline. Our hope is this partnership will assist local restaurants and their staff. Meals for the frontline workers will be individually packaged.
Restaurant Employee Relief Fund put on hold after website crashes
Out of work restaurant employees almost breathed a sigh of relief when the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation announced a plan to help out its industry workers. The foundation created the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund (RERF) which would provide $500 to any restaurant workerwho has been adversely impacted by COVID-19, financially. The application process was set to open April 6 but never did. Almost immediately after opening the application process, extremely high user volume overwhelmed the application platform. National Restaurant Association Educational FoundationRERF applications are closed while the foundation works to resolve its technical issues.

Itโs hard to say which industry in the United States has suffered the most adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. At least 110,000 more businesses are expected to shutter in the next month, according to estimates by the National Restaurant Association. The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation created the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund which will provide $500 grants to restaurant industry employees who have been adversely impacted by COVID-19, financially, whether through a decrease in wages or loss of employment.
