Police name suspect in deadly stabbing on Edgewood Ave.
The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office have identified a suspect in the deadly stabbing that happened near Value Pawn on Edgewood Avenue Sunday, June 4. After following up on evidence and interviewing witnesses, police identified the suspect as Steve Kent Ziegler, 62. A warrant has been issued for Ziegler for murder.
Northbound Edgewood reopens at train track overpass after crane fire
A day after a crane caught fire and sent flames shooting 40 feet high, possibly damaging the New Kings Road overpass on Edgewood Avenue, News4JAX learned northbound lanes of Edgewood had reopened, while southbound lanes will remain closed until officials can inspect the overpass.
Person dies after slamming into billboard on Westside
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ One person is dead after crashing into a large billboard sign early Saturday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. Officers say the car was traveling north on Cassat Avenue at 2:10 a.m. when it went off the road and hit the sign at the intersection with Edgewood Avenue. The driver died at the scene. Jacksonville Traffic Homicide is currently investigating the crash.
Downpours bring deluge to parts of Jacksonvilles Westside
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Severe thunderstorms brought a lot of rain to parts of Duval County on Monday night, including the Westside, which saw a deluge following the heavy rains. The photo above shows flooding along Roosevelt Boulevard at the Edgewood Avenue overpass that brought traffic to a standstill. Some of the flooding was near the intersections of College and Acosta streets. Bad flooding near College and Acosta St. Neighborhoods that saw flooding included parts of Hogans Creek, McCoys Creek, Downtown Jacksonville, Oceanway, Riverside, Normandy, Ortega and Tallyrand.
JSO: SUV found, suspected gunman sought in deadly shooting at gas station
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ An SUV sought in connection with a deadly shooting Monday at a gas station on Edgewood Avenue has been found, the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said Thursday. The SUV was located after police on Tuesday released surveillance photos of the silver Nissan Rogue, as well as the suspected gunman. The shooting happened around 9 a.m. Monday at the Shell gas station at the corner of Edgewood Avenue West and Avenue B. Police issue BOLO for bear in Northwest Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Police report getting three calls Thursday from people reporting seeing a large bear near the area of Edgewood Avenue and Avenue B. The Jacksonville Sheriffs Office said the Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission was notified and they urged anyone who sees the bear to not approach or agitate. Police also encouraged people who see the bear to call their non-emergency number: 904-630-0500. Black bears are not uncommon in Florida, but rare in populated areas. Five years ago, FWC estimated there were close to 4,000 in the state.
Foul play suspected after man found critically injured at Jacksonville auto shop
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A man was found with critical injuries Monday evening at the Morans Auto Connection, near west 12th street on Edgewood Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. JSO said a 51-year-old man was found lying on the ground with a head injury around 6:30 p.m. He was given CPR on the scene and taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Due to the nature of his injuries, a homicide unit is investigating possible foul play. Semi crash blocks all southbound lanes of I-95 near Lem Turner
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ One person was injured after a crash involving a tractor-trailer in the southbound lanes of I-95 near Lem Turner on Wednesday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The truck driver was taken to the hospital. The injuries are said to be non-life-threatening. The semi crash blocked all southbound lanes for about an hour and traffic was diverted onto Edgewood Avenue. The cause of the crash is unknown.
Teen shot in Woodstock area
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A teenage boy was shot and wounded Friday afternoon in the Woodstock area of Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. Police said the 17-year-old was shot once in the shoulder in a front yard along West Fifth Street, just east of Edgewood Avenue and two schools. The teen was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the scene and then taken to a hospital. According to the Sheriff's Office, a person of interest was detained at a different location. Driver cut out of pickup after plowing into back of box truck
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A driver was seriously injured Wednesday morning when his pickup truck slammed into the back of a box truck at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and West Beaver Street, police said. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck didn't stop for the vehicles ahead and plowed into the back of the box truck. The impact caused the Mercedes and Cadillac in the lane next to the box truck to be damaged by the pickup truck and flying debris. The 58-year-old male driver of the pickup truck suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be cut out of the truck by firefighters. The box truck driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
