A likely tornado has moved offshore away from Usina Beach. The tornado threat is over. Drive with caution on A1A and US 1 near Araquey for possible debris damage. Radar showed possible wind-born debris west of US1 and north of Main Street in St. Augustine close to Holmes Blvd and 4 Mile Road. A trained waterspout was spotted as the severe storm rolled off Vilano Beach at 7:30 a.m.

Body found along A1A identified as 24-year-old Middleburg woman
A body found Sunday along A1A was identified as a 24-year-old Middleburg woman, the St. Johns County Sheriffโs Office said Monday. Early Sunday morning is when the Sheriffโs Office, along with the Florida Highway Patrol, responded to what was believed to be a deadly hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian along A1A, just south of J. Turner Butler Boulevard. Investigators said they began an aerial search and eventually found Gibsonโs vehicle abandoned in a gated apartment complex in Middleburg, which was some distance away from her boyfriendโs home. Investigators said the vehicle was seized by the Sheriffโs Office while detectives began searching for Gibsonโs boyfriend. News4Jax has been in contact with Gibsonโs family members, who are asking for privacy after their unexpected loss.
Retired ABC News correspondent killed in Ponte Vedra Beach bicycle crash
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. โ The 77-year-old bicyclist killed Monday after he was caught up in a crash near Micklerโs Landing in Ponte Vedra Beach was a retired correspondent with ABC News. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bicyclist died at the scene after a collision with the front of the truck on A1A near Mickler Road on Monday afternoon. Troopers said a pickup truck was traveling northbound on State Road A1A in the left turn lane at Mickler Road around 1:30 p.m. The truck then attempted to turn left onto Mickler Road and collided with the left side of a car that was traveling southbound on State Road A1A. OโBrien was an attorney and covered the U.S. Supreme Court for ABC News for more than 22 years.
Northeast Floridaโs 1st diverging diamond interchange challenges drivers
Itโs Northeast Florida first diverging diamond interchange. FDOT officials will be at the interchange Monday morning to monitor conditions through the first weekday rush hour. By moving traffic to the opposite side of the road, the interchange eliminates left turns in front of oncoming traffic and is supposed to greatly improve safety. โThe diverging diamond helps to eliminate conflict points," said FDOT spokesman Hampton Ray. Transportation officials said the interchange eliminates the number of traffic signal phases, improve efficiency at the intersection and reduces traffic queues.
FHP: 1 killed in 3-car crash on A1A in Ponte Vedra Beach
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. โ A woman was killed and a man suffered serious injuries in a crash the evening of Monday, Feb. 17, on State Road A1A in Ponte Vedra Beach, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. A northbound Lexus RX 350A struck the passenger side of the Prius where 82-year-old Sarita May was sitting. According to the FHP, May, a Ponte Vedra Beach resident, died at the scene. The Lexus overturned and struck a pole and its driver was also taken to Memorial Hospital, but with only minor injuries. All northbound lanes of A1A were blocked for several hours as troopers investigated the crash.
Deputies: 2 teens dead in suspected homicide-suicide at Ponte Vedra Beach home
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. โ Two teenage boys died early Sunday morning in what is believed to be a homicide-suicide at a Ponte Vedra Home, the St. Johns County Sheriffโs Office said. Deputies said they were called about 1:30 a.m. to a home on Solano Cay Circle, near the intersection of A1A and Solano Road, where they found two teenagers, ages 17 and 18, dead of gunshot wounds inside a bedroom. According to the Sheriffโs Office, the deaths of the teens were initially investigated as a murder-suicide but deputies were not looking for any suspects. On Monday, the Sheriffโs Office called the first death a homicide instead while investigating if any intent was involved in the initial shooting. The Sheriffโs Office said the medical examiner will be conducting autopsies to determine the cause and manner of the deaths.
FHP: Bicyclist in St. Augustine hit by 93-year-old driver
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. โ A bicyclist was flown by air ambulance to UF Health in Jacksonville with serious injuries after being hit by a car on Sunday morning in St. Johns County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. FHP said the identity of the bicyclist is not known. The person was cycling on A1A about 9 a.m. when a 93-year-old St. Augustine woman driving a Honda Accord on West Road failed to yield the right of away when entering A1A and hit the bicyclist, according to troopers. The FHP report shows the driver of the car was cited with failing to yield the right of way.

Troopers said the driver of a Nissan was going northbound about 11:40 p.m. on A1A approaching Corona Road well above the speed limit. A witness told Florida Highway Patrol that the driver lost control and hit a tree. The driver, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, identified as Jensy Ramos Vigil, 19, of Jacksonville, was taken to Memorial hospital in critical condition.

St. Johns County has plan to fix breach after hurricane washes out road
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - If you stand at the intersection where Old A1A meets A1A in St. Johns County, you might notice something is missing: Old A1A. Jesse Turner, a St. Johns County resident who once worked for the county but has since retired, said he used to maintain Old A1A and watched it change over the years with each passing storm. St. Johns County resident Raymond Daidle said he used to commute along Old A1A. St. Johns County officials said they are making every effort to close the breach. The county's project to close the breach is expected to take four weeks once a contractor gets the green light.
St. Johns County surveys hurricane damage to coastal highways
MARINELAND, Fla. - Sandbags have replaced the barriers along coastal roads in St. Johns County which were breached Wednesday during the height of Hurricane Dorian. Storm surge sent waves washing over A1A in Vilano Beach and Old A1A north of Marineland, deputies to shut down the roads for a few hours. On Thursday, St. Johns County public works officials surveyed the erosion the breaches caused and discussed options to protect the roads and nearby homes. A project already approved would plant sea oats along the path of Old A1A -- a stretch where the state road was rebuilt further inland due to previous hurricane damage -- to hopefully prevent flooding in the future. On Thursday, a county public works team started removing the fencing damaged in the breach as they prepare to determine the best way to move the project forward.

1 dead, 1 injured in Nassau County car accident
NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. โ A single-car accident early Sunday morning in Nassau County left a passenger dead and the driver seriously injured, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Daniel Ray Cowert, 48, of Fernandina Beach, died Sunday when the car he was riding in overturned On Black Rock Road near A1A. The car was traveling northbound on Black Rock Road when the it ran off the road and overturned multiple times, seriously injuring the driver and killing the Cowert, FHP said. The driver, from Yulee, was taken to UF Health at Jacksonville for treatment, FHP said. The driver's name is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.
